Smart Wheels and Tires for YOUR TC

Recommended Posts

www.thetirerack.com has a great looking set of wheels and tires for your tc. They only weigh 20 lbs each and are 16 x 7.5 inches. Standard size tire is a 215/55/16. After measuring I ordered 225/50/16 Yokohama AVS Z rated tires that were on closeout for only $60 each. The wheels were $139 each and came mounted and balanced complete with covers, lugs and wrench...complete package. This wheel/tire combination increases your tread width from 6" to 8" for 33% more road contact. The tires are about the stickiest I ever owned and are good for 20k miles wet/dry. I only had to bend the brackets for the abs wires on the front a little bit for clearance in turns. This is a great combination and does not rub. The whole package was delivered to my door for $860 (no tax too !!) If you want to take a look click on my link below and browse the pictures. The two things that detract from the TC's otherwise sporty lines & dimensions are the staid stock wheels & the formal hardtop cum portholes. It's not that this is unattractive per se, & it was probably correct for the TC's targeted market demographic, but the set-up you're describing is, I'm sure, far more agressive in appearance & brings out the latent roadburner look in the TC's styling.
I went through your picture album, though, Bob, & didn't spot anything but factory rims. Could you put up a picture of the car in question as now modified?

Okay, Bob, my bad, I didn't go far enough into that series. Definitely a big difference. Two questions - is this a daily driver, & what brand/model are the wheels?

The wheels are AJS, a company licensed by BBS the world famous brand. The car is a daily (weekly driver). I got the car last year from a private collector with 3215 miles on it (1600 of which were from driving the car from detroit to missouri).I am working with Rick Diogo (The gent in Florida who has a stock(ported and polished but with a garrett turbo)Masi motor in an IROC Z that makes 443 hp / 408 ftlbs torque at the front wheels on the dyno. I an on track for 16-18 lbs boost and over 300 hp. Since its 1 of 3 ramaining 3xblk ca cars, I will not make any modifications that would deter conversion back to bone stock as a collectors point of view. Bob

Let me see if I remeber this right Bob, You HAD a triple black 16V TC, sold it, now found another

one? What are the chances of that? BTW I missed the dyno day yesterday for my 'after'

session. In stock form my 16V TC laid down a respectable 179HP. Now I have 20% larger injectors

one of Rick's adjustable fuel pressure regulators, full exhaust, and am running 17PSI. With the

little stock IHI turbo maxed out like that, I am expecting to see 240-250 WHP. to get to your target

300, I think you will need another turbo or at least an internally modified IHI.
