JRHaelig
I'm still wrestling with the trans on my non-running '39 Business Coupe. I have 1st & reverse and about half of second. What's the 2nd gear shift lever throw like on a properly functioning transmission? Mine is not as high as reverse, but when I am in second and let the clutch out the engine is definitely engaged. Is the 2/3 fork supposed to move the "outer spline tube" on the "center shaft"? Mine does not. Are both of the "pucks" (synchros?) at either end supposed to be loose or rigid? My front one is loose and the rear is rigidly bonded. Have a look at the video - don't get seasick - and let me know your thoughts..thank you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLKxEZB1QKk
DonMicheletti
I see at least one problem. That second gear idler should not be able to move at all (unless you have the rear housing off). Disassembled it looks like this first photo. Also, there are 3 long "leaf" springs that help the synchros. . Second photo. One or more of these might be broken and keeping things from working right. These are under the sliding 2nd / high sliding drum (3rd photo wont load)
DonMicheletti
Here is the 3rd photo. You can just see the spring at the center on the output shaft.
