Vernsmith
OK I know this subject has been discussed before, but, I am installing heads and notice the triangular-shaped water opening in block and head are similar, but the "Fel-Pro" gasket holes are much smaller round holes. Question - should I cut out the gasket to a similar size? Also gasket sealant, what kind? So much written so many different ideas. Appreciate any info. 19tom40
I think that the smaller holes were introduced to improve cooling. The triangular opening allowed the coolant to bypass the rearmost cylinders affecting the cooling. You should not need any sealant on the head gasket, the coating on the gasket is a sealer. Just make sure that the head and block are really clean. Use alcohol to clean the surfaces.
