Guest 1941Buick56C
Hi group, I am currently restoring the air filter of my 1941 Buick 56c. It had a carburetor fire a year ago. There is some fiber like material inside the filter and I was wondering what one would use to replace it. I almost looks like coarse steel wool but it appears to be of a different material. I could probably wash the material that is in it but if there is a way to replace it with something new, I would prefer that. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have. DAVES_BUICKS
JC, years ago I needed to replace my oil bath air cleaner material on my '41.. I found woven stainless steel kitchen pot scrubbers worked just fine. It takes several, but they are not expensive, and when packed in, they almost looked like the original material. They get coated with oil from the oil bath and trap (theoretically) the dust. You can probably find them at most stores that carry kitchen supplies.
