Pete Phillips Posted July 13, 2016 Share Posted July 13, 2016 They were galvanized, not painted, except there may be some over-spray from black painted items elsewhere on the chassis. I always recommend "Dull Aluminum" spray paint for the outside of gas tanks. That replicates the original color pretty well. I think the Plasti-coat brand comes in "Dull Aluminum".
