gegrunt
I know that this panel looks like some type of body mount but I cannot find any listing in the one Ford parts book that I have. The part number written on it is 21 A 16144 and calls out the application as 1942-46 Ford but I can't quite nail it down as far as application. Does this look familiar to anyone? drwatson
I'm interested in 42 Ford lore so I spent time researching this part and besides I hate to see Marv junk it.Bottom line though your "21A-16144" part is still a mystery to me. Per attached illustration I thought I nailed your part and maybe someone misquoted the part #. But close examination reveals your part looks different from the one in the illustration, yet has same function.I have a theory: Your "21A-16144" part may be specific to a 1942 6 Cyl. but was superceded by Ford part 51A 16140B, & 41B. which fits both 6 & 8 Cyl 1942 to 1948 Ford passenger cars. My Ford part books cover 1942 but the books were all issued after the war. I suspect 21A-16144 might be listed in a earlier book which might prove my theory. gegrunt
Thank you for taking the time to help me ID this panel. If you are ever looking for some sheet metal for a car from the late 1940's to early 1960's just let me know, I will try to return the favor.
