What is it? 1938 Chevrolet part?

Is this a cast part or a stamped part? Any identification numbers on it?

No part numbers at all.

Any suggestions of what may be?

If it is relatively small like 4" x 8" my guess is it is  heater vent cover.  I remember those kind of  parts below the rear seats for heat in the rear passenger area.

Thanks for your help. My '38 was a coupe so it didn't have a back seat for a heater vent...

I know I'm kind of late responding to your question but I just saw it and I don't know if you ever got an answer. I don't know the official part name but I believe that part is for the 37(?)-39 Chevy deluxe radio with the separate speaker that mounts on the inside firewall under the dash.  That part is the under-hood cover that goes over the openings in the firewall to let air into the speaker to keep it cool.  You'd have to remove the knock out plugs in the firewall if adding that radio to a car that never had it before.

 

You might be able to find a picture on the internet somewhere but i'm not sure.
