JoelsBuicks
I'm in the market for main bearings for a 1938 248 and what I have found is that for both '37 and '38, the bearings are priced much higher (nearly double) than the later years '39 - '47. What is different about them? Are any of the bearings the same or are all 5 different? My '38 crank main journals show almost no wear and I have somehow managed to lose half of the rear main bearing. Thank you,Joel
pont35cpe
Joel, I recently rebuilt two inline Buick 8cyl engines, a `36 233 and a `41 248. The 233 mains are steel inserts with Babbitt, the 248 has inserts, I`m not sure about `37-38 they might be steel with Babbitt. The steel with Babbitt type has to be line- bored to match the dia. of crankshaft journals, and yes all the journals are different diameter and all have to be shimmed for correct clearance. I bought the main bearings for the 248 from Terrill Machine Inc. DeLeon, Tx 254 893 2610 You might call Feltz(Terrill) he could probably tell you the difference(price) of the 37-38 bearings.
