Guest TomB
Does anyone know how to (safely) remove the 6 bolt transmission flange that mounts to the universal joint? I have a '27 Dictator Standard Six; the number on the transmission is 125061-3. Anyone have an available 6 bolt flange? Thank you.Respectfully,TomB
dictator27
Hi TomRemove the hand brake band. Remove the cotter pin and nut on the trans output shaft. A steering wheel puller shoul be adequate to move the flange. All things being equal, it should come off easily. The brake drum will come with itTerry
Guest TomB
Hi Terry:Well, I did that, except I used a gear puller. Instead of the flange coming off, the puller bent the flange. Truly the design of the devil.Tom Edited June 11, 2013 by TomB Formatting (see edit history)
dictator27
Shoot!! Studebaker recommended a "universal" puller which was used for pulling everything from gears to pulleys to steering wheels and flanges. Looks like an oversize steering wheel puller. If I didn't have one available, I probably would have used a gear puller myself. I'm surprised that the flange was that stubborn about coming off, though.
