55 dodge serial numbers

Recommended Posts

I found an ID plate loose in the glove compartment of a 55 Dodge I bought. It is about an inch wide and 3 inches long or a little bigger. The plate was painted over with black paint when the car was repainted years ago. Only some stamped numbers show.

Numbers as follows:

D54-2-4 DOOR SEDAN

( I believe this means, 1955 Dodge Regent 4 door sedan)

12150

(serial #?)

6013

HBH

Could the last 2 be paint and trim codes?

MODEL NO : D54-2-4 DOOR SEDAN

BODY NO : 12150

PAINT CODE : 6013

TRIM CODE : HBH

D54-2-4 DOOR SEDAN

D54-2 - 1955 Dodge Regent 6

12150 - 12,150th 1955 Dodge Regent sedan built (rather high, actually)

6013 - Exterior colour - Teal Grey

HBH - Interior trim -

H - 1955 model year

B - colour - Blue

The serial number should be stamped on a small plate attached to the driver's door hinge post. It is eight digits long and begins with 98.

The engine is either a 228.1-cid 6 cylinder or 250.6-cid. The 228 unit was used with the manual transmission while the 251 was mated to the Powerflite automatic transmission, The engine number on both started with D25, but the 251 number ended with the letter X.
