Juha Paavo Kaita Posted February 6, 2013 Share Posted February 6, 2013 Friend of mine is overhauling his Oldsmobile from 1921. Now he is wondering the clutch. There is one clutch plate and two loose friction surfaces. Does the clutch on the photo look like an original clutch? I cannot seem to get a scan or picture to upload although my file size is ok. This is th efirst time since th erecent upgrade. I willl keep trying. Is it normal that the friction surfaces are loose - not clued or riveted on the clutch plate? I myself own a Reo Model G from 1926. nickelroadster Posted February 8, 2013 Share Posted February 8, 2013 I have tried but cannot seem to get a picture loaded. I did not used to have a problem doing this. My exploded view very clearly shows the friction surfaces as being loose and separate from the clutch disc with one installed on either side of the disc. I believe it is a Borg and Beck setup. nickelroadster Posted February 10, 2013 Share Posted February 10, 2013 It is curious that the car has exposed valves. the only other 43As that I have seen had regular valve covers. I wonder is this a special export version or is the engine possibly from an Oakland or Chevrolet which also used this engine. Anyone else know? There is actually valve cover. Oiling of the valve mechanims happens through holes in the cover. The owner of the Model 43A thinks it is easier to oil valves if the cover is not on.
