Patricks31ply
My 1931 Plymouth PA calls for S.A.E. 160 oil for the rearaxle and transmission. Can someone please let me know what the modern equivalentwould be? S.A.E. 160 is recommended for my climate, Arizona.Thank you!
Owen_Dyneto
It's still readily available, though only in 5 gallon pails. Any good auto parts store should be able to order it for you.

Richard1
Technically there is no longer such an animal, but you might find it as Owen says. This is the current chart for crossing viscosities between tables. There was probably so much viscosity lost in those days due to low quality oils that you probably have more viscosity in a 85W-140 Synthetic at operating temperatures. Patricks31ply
Thank you! I did use 85W-140 gear oil. I did not use Synthetic this time but will when I drain the trans and rear.
