Sway Bar

I think I need to put a sway bar on the rear of my 54 Plymouth Savoy. When making a right turn it keeps rubbing the fender and fender skirts on the tire. I don't know what kind to get or where to look. Can anyone give me information abiout this or mabey another idea? It would be a great help.

I believe that you need to check that you have the proper wheel. If the wheel is too wide or has the wrong offset it can rub on the body. Post on the Chrysler-Mopar and on the Plymouth forums and someone can give you the part number and specs for the correct wheel. You will probably have to remove the tire from the wheel to see the part number.

Besides Bob's suggestion which is the first to check.......also take a look at your spring bushings. If they are in poor shape, the rear axle may be shifting over some.

Yes, thanks doing that right now. Working in the cold!!! I found a panhard bar kit that might work. Gonna try it

Think I have the problem solved. I put gabriel air shocks on the rear. Pumped them up about half way. They are a lot firmer than stock. They also claim to make the car more stable from swaying. So far IT WORKED. No rubbing so far!!
