DCE
To quote the "The Motor Car Production Records Dodge Brothers Inc."1915 SeriesCar # 1 to 370 covers the period Nov 1914 to December 31, 1914Car # 371 to 10,000 covers the period January 1, 1915 to May 30, 1915Car # 10,001 to 18,157 covers the period May 31 1915 to June 30, 19151916 SeriesCar # 18,158 to 19,999 covers the period July 1, 1915 to July 18, 1915Car # 20,000 to 29,999 covers the period July 19, 1915 to September 16, 1915etc.My question is would Car # 19,000 be more correctly called a 1915 or 1916?From a calender perspective it was manufactured in July of 1915. However, if manufactured on or after July 1, of any given year is it more correctly described as a vehicle of the following year? It appears on July 1 of each year the series of vehicle changes.Just wanted clarification on this. Thanks for you help.Dale
Guest 1930
Hello Dale, all cars manufactured after June 30th would be known as the series for the following year. Assuming car # 19000 was manufactured in July of 1915 than it would be designated a 1916 series cars.Hope this helps
Guest rameses32
The July 1-June 30 "Series" designations began with the 1924 Series. Ref:Confidential dealer bulletin Vol .3, No 62, Item 274, 11/28/24. So if it was made in 1915 it was a 1915 model but if it was made in Aug 1924, it is a 1925 model, at least thats how I take it.Charley
RAH
Dale, As Charley stated In the beginning The Brothers Dodge employed the Jan - Jan designation with exception to those built Dec '14 . These were not referred to by them in official publications other than '15s. In the early master parts books the serial numbers associated with Jan are in bold print. After the Brothers were deceaased the Corporate officials changed to the July 1st system and made it retroactive presumably to accomodate the rest of the automotive market. Sooo, I personally continue to call cars manufactured in '15 as '15s. That also follows with the HCCA. -----Rodger "Dodger"
Guest 1930
Just to clarify the D.B bulletin issued (cant remember the date now, early/mid twenties ) made ALL cars retro-active but like the last poster eluded to /suggested different ideas.
