RivNut Posted October 18, 2012 Share Posted October 18, 2012 I was pulling the front drums off the '63 parts car and encountered something I'd never seen before. "Micro-Nuts" were used in place of castle nuts to hold the hubs on. They're installed by putting the hex nut on the spindle with the spline side facing out. The Micro-nut is then slipped over the splines aligning the groves with the cotter pin hole in the spindle. It looks as if they're almost infinitely adjustable. 1965rivgs Posted October 19, 2012 Share Posted October 19, 2012 Ed, I have never seen these on automobiles but modern trucks have a very similar locking axle nut. Looks like a more precise adjustment of the wheel bearings is possible with this locknut...although I must admit I have never had problems with the simpler and less expensive factory castle nut.
