Tom_S
Hello to all,What is the recommended method of installing the straight 8 oil pan gasket, with or without some kind of sealer? Also, can the rear main seal be installed while the engine is in place? That may be a dumb question as I need to crawl underneath and take a look see. Thanks,Tom
FLYER15015
Tom,I used a THIN coat of permatex #2, to hold the gasket up to the block, and a THIN coat on the pan side,In a year of driving, no problems yet. Can't address the rear main seal, but I suppose you could drop the rear main bearing block and get at the lower half.Mike in Colorado
Tom_S
Mike,Thanks. I thought it might be best to apply a coat of some kind of sealer. Headed to the parts store shortly.Tom
