Guest gmorse
Hello. If any of you have a '39 Buick engine and clutch out of the car, I would like to know the diameter in the rear of the crank where the pilot bearing fits. As most of you know, Buick used a roller bearing as a pilot only in the '38 series 40, and in all '39 models. After that, they went back to the more common ball bearing. My '39 is still all together, but I would like this measurement so I can do a little advance plannning.Thank you to anyone who can help.Gary

Guest gmorse
Hello Commodore,Thank you for the reply, but I am looking for the actual measurement in the end of the crank where the bearing fits. As the bearing is a roller bearing, it is difficult to arrive at a measurement from just the bearing ( which I already have.) I am experimenting with some different bearing.Gary
Guest OwenC
Re: 1939 Buick CrankshaftHello Gary. I have not taken the retaining 'plate' and / or bearing out but the diameter of the counterbore the retainer to hold the bearing in place is set into is 1.625". Regards.
