Guest Posted April 11, 2002 Share Posted April 11, 2002 Does anyone know where I can get a 1938 willy's overland motor. Or does anyone know how much the car is worth. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
1937hd45 Posted April 11, 2002 Share Posted April 11, 2002 If you have a stock 1938 Willys, you may have one of the last ones. These cars were VERY popular as Gas/Coupes in drag racing. They make reproduction fiberglass bodies today to keep up with the demand. If your looking to make a buck, the rodded version is worth double the restored version once finished. Guest De Soto Frank Posted April 15, 2002 Share Posted April 15, 2002 Mycargo,
Wow! Congrats on owning one of the last unmolsted pre-war Willys!
The engine should be:
the 134 cu in "Go-Devil" flathead four cyl, designed for Willys by Barney Roos, somewhere around 1933 or so.
This engine was used by Willys up through the forties, and was eventually converted to an "F"-head design and used in the Jeep CJ's into the sixties.
I believe the engines themselves may have been built for Willys by Continental.
At any rate, if you find a Jeep CJ with a flathead-4, that engine should fit your '38; but this is an educated guess; you might want to get a Hollander catalog and see what that says.
Whatever you do, keep it stock; let the hot-rodders with seemingly limitless bank accounts buy the glass bodies for their projects;
I've never seen an original '33-41 Willys car in real life; it's nice to know that somewhere, they do exist!
Good luck on the engine search!
