Timken axle bearings Lincoln, Cadillac, others?

Recommended Posts

Taking a shot here, maybe someone else has been thru this:

Looking for upper cone bearings and races for my 1924 Lincoln front axle. These fit just above the knuckle on the king pin shaft and support the weight of the vehicle. Un numbered bearing cone that has a flange with a keyway cut in it to register and lock it to the knuckle. I'm told it is the same as early Cadillac.

Can anyone suggest a source or where to start looking?

Thank you,

Ian

You need to be cautious with new-old-stock. some taper roller bearings of the era were case harden jobs, and you can find that the rollers and the cups and cones will brinel by just standing. If what you have are of a through-hardening steel, you can re-grind the contact surface of cup and cone, then make, harden, and centreless grind new rollers of something like a 2% carbon 2% chromium steel using the original cages, but so the height is the same or within reason.
