pistoncollector
We used to be able to buy a "top dressing" product which sealed the top on prewar closed cars. Applying this dressing once or twice a year kept the top from leaking and getting the headliner inside wet. It was as thin as water but filled any cracks and dried hard. I have been looking for a supplier and can not find anyone who sells it anymore. What do people use today? Are they just not driving when it rains? Can someone tell me where I can find some? bruffsup
The first top insert on my 1936 Ford panel lasted 25 years and it is a BIG insert! I renewed it last year. It is not a difficult job. "long grain topping" is the description of the material. Better than patching.
unimogjohn
A couple of years ago I bought a couple of quart cans from Snyders, a Ford supplier. The number is M-255 Top Dressing. It is a paint type sealer. I could not find it in their on-line product list, but you might send them an e-mail.Oh, and found it also at http://www.bobsantiqueautoparts.com/index.php/m-255-top-dressing-black-for-closed-cars.html Edited February 22, 2012 by unimogjohn (see edit history)
