Sealing fabric roof insert

I want to leave my '36 12 sedan original but am afraid to take it out in the rain or wash it due to worrying about water leaking through the fabric roof insert and staining the headliner. The insert is in good shape and seems strong physically but I'd like to treat it or paint it with some type of water proof paint.

Anyone have any experience with a good product to do this?

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I've never used top dressing, the stuff at Bob's looks like the stuff. There's little info though so I wanted to ask is it brush on? I'm envisioning something black and thick that get brushed on and dries flexible? It'll be $45 by the time shipping is thrown in so I just figured I'd ask.
