1917 Headlight Disassemble Project

Need to remove the trim rings on 1917 Oldsmobile headlights. Only one small screw on the back of the housing...turning it does not release the components.

Suggestions ?

Phil, I don't have an Oldsmobile but my Maxwell and many others of this era have twist off trim rings. Just make doubly sure there is not a hidden release button on the lower bottom of the bucket close to the ring. The screw you mention is most likely a focus adjustment.

On my Buick, there are three rivets on the outside edge of the trim ring with a place for a screw. The rivets go under a slot on the head light bucket. I just need to remove the screw and turn the ring counter clockwise about 5 degrees to remove the ring. Sometime it is tight to get the ring to turn because of age and gunk, but put some liquid wrench on it and it should free up.
