Guest Kattosha
I have a 1940 Oldsmobile series 60 still on a 6 volt system, what battery do you recommend? and why?
rocketraider
If you want "the look" you can get a reproduction battery that will duplicate the OE type exactly. Think $$$.If you just want a good serviceable battery at reasonable cost, most auto parts stores will have or can get you a 6V battery. A farm store always has them too since a lot of tractors use them. There are also 8 volt batteries that will fit. There's been several discussions about 6V systems and the overwhelming opinion is they worked back then, and they can work now. Just find a good generator shop (again, the farm supplies will know who does them) and keep all cabling and grounds in good clean condition and your 6V Olds should start and run easily off its 6V electrical system. bill pritchett
I have a 50 Olds and it needs a BC2 size battery that NAPA sells. You have to get the class 2 battery as the class 1 size will not turn it over. I think that battery goes from 37 to 52. Look at the NAPA site and it will tell you what battery. Hemmings had an article on this which is referenced in the URL below.6-Volt Battery Article
