2010 GLIDDEN TOUR

I'm pleased to report that the worlds oldest and greatest antique car tour, the Glidden Tour, was a resounding success! The VMCCA did a great job organizing five days of activities for the 165 vehicles participating. Our trip back to Michigan was pure nostalgia for Susan and I as we met in college at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, and I grew up in the Battle Creek area. Back in those days we didn't spent a lot of time touring and site-seeing , so the chance to see what we missed was most welcome. Beautiful weather accompanied us most of the week, but Friday's ride in Chuck and Sharon Hoaglunds 1909 Moline got a little damp and chilly as temps dropped into the 50's. There was an impressive number of true Glidden-era vehicles on the tour including John and Jan Nikodyms 1909 Velie - serial #1, Ken Kenewells 1911 Popoe Hartford, Jim Cohens 1911 oakland, Bob and Betty Reenders 1911 Pierce, and many others. AACA was well represented with many members participating, plus national directors Dave Zimmerman and Brenda, Susan and I, Hulon McCraw, Joanna Cooper and Rick Marsh. Susan and I got to ride with Tex and Linda Sorrell in their 1932 Franklin, Mark and Linda Hanna in their 1940 Packard, and Ron Lique from right here in Chesapeake Va in his 1930 Model A-just like the one we used to have!. While I was riding in the 1909 Moline, Susan navigated for Hulon - no, you can't keep her!

I'll post some pictures as I have a chance to download them, but hopefully you'll all start right now getting excited about next year's Glidden in Cumberland Maryland.

Tour stops included a fabulous aircraft museum in Kalamazoo, the famous windmill in Holland Mich, a ride on a tall-ship, a maritime museum, historic towns and plenty of antique shops, the Gilmore Museum in Kalamazoo, a nostalgic visit to the Del Shannon museum in Coopersville, a train ride, some fabulous private car and memorabilia collections, and great food as always! And here are a few more photos-

Oh, and I had to get one of Charlie Froehlich sliding down the pole at a fire museum we visited!

The last pic is a bunch of happy "Buzzies" after their traditional five-minute meeting.
