'41Caddy Wiring Info Stop Lights

Hi, When I engage foot brake pedal, the stop lights do NOT come on in the rear. The directional signals work correctly. When my parking or headlights are on, the rear tail lights come on, the two upper lights are normal, but the two lower lights are double brightness, as if the stop lights are on as well as the normal driving tail lights. Does any one have an idea on how to fix this issue? Thanks, Joe

Hi.

Are you using DOT 5 (silicone) brake fluid? Silicone brake fluid messes up the pressure diaphram in the stop light switch, and soon the switch quits working. When I was using silicone fluid I had to replace that switch annually.

For that reason and others I now use DOT 3 fluid.

Before going through the trouble of changing the fluid, have you checked to see if the stop light switch is operating properly?

Have you checked the grounds at the tail lights?
