battery disconnect

Recommended Posts

My car is positive ground. I want to install a battery disconnect switch, do I install it on the negative or positive cable. Thankyou, drbs[/quote

I use the negative post on both positive and negative ground cars. Never had a problem with any of them.

I don't think either matters, but beware that there is very little surface area on the screw-down type which makes them overheat and burn out. On of my most embarrassing moments at a car show was the failure of a battery switch while in like for the Pass and Review at the Orphan Car Show. Any idea how embarrassing it was to be pushed across the awards stage? :(

The 300-amp switches sold for RVs work great.

The switch should be always on the ground side. If something should fall on the hot terminal, it would do no harm.

There would have to be a short in the hot sid,and something would have to fall on the grounded batt. termanal in order to have a short.
