Anything from an 81 Omega"Sport"

I'm looking for the left rear fender flare from a 1981 Omega with the "Sport" package (RPO Y87) I believe it is. This is actually a very rare option so I know the likelyhood of anyone seeing one is slim to none. Only 696 made according to the Standard Catalog of Oldsmobile. That is probably why it was only made 1 year. Call me anytime on my cell@612-708-8015 Thanks, Brad. This was the only color combo it came in so you'll know it if you see it. The GM part# for the flare is 22501905 so if anyone here can maybe help me get lucky and find a new flare i'd be ever so grateful(hint, finders fee if I actually do find an NOS one).

Still looking, They did offer a tachometer for these cars. Unfortunately I went to a dealer and they couldn't get me a part number. Since it was an item originally serviced by Delco the books didn't show a number. It has to have one. Anybody savvy enough to find me a part number? It's coming along, I have a 3400 with a carb intake/ iron heads installed. I thought I'd include a pic of the drivers spindle before and after. Amazing what people do to cars. I guess this is why it finally made it to the junkyard.

I can get a part number for the speedo head, but not for the tach. I can tell you that the speed head will be different with the tach, which was part of the U21 gage package.

Thanks I'll take any help I can get. So the speedo is also different? I'm not sure where they placed the tach in the dash anyways since I haven't seen one. Does it sit in the same spot as the standard speedo? What I mean is the speedo and tach like a combo gauge where the tach is at the bottom of the speedo.

Well, according to this you already have the gage cluster. It's standard on the SportOmega. I guess a tach wasn't offered. That would explain why there isn't a part number listed in the catalog.

I just bought that brochure, if you look closely it shows the tach in the slightly larger hole below the three others. The dealer did give me a copy of the part numbers for the tach jumper wire and tach filters. 1980-1981 tach filter #14020025 for the 2.8, 10008263 for the 2.5 and the jumper to run the tach on the 4 cyl-12009888. He showed the tach under the group number 9.750, but it was a serviced by delco so that's all the book listed. Back in October I did a search on car-part and a cluster with tach showed up at a yard in Canada, but I was 1 week too late. He said they had just finished crushing that stuff but he remembered it-Dangit.

Yes, I see now that is a tach. I thought it was another gage.

Aha! I don't have a tach number, but there are three different cluster printed circuit boards. One with no gages, one with gages exc. tach, and one with gages and tach. So, in order for the tach to work, you'll want to have a complete cluster assembly because the circuit boards are different.

Gages must have been standard on the SportOmega, ES and SX, but there must have been an optional cluster with a tach, too.

Here is the low-down on the tach...

There was an optional gage cluster on the bottom-feeder Omegas. Option code U14 - included trip odometer, voltmeter, temperature and oil pressure gages. Sold for $65. Was standard on the ES and SportOmega cars. There was a 2nd optional gage cluster available on all Omegas. Option code U21. Included all of the above, plus a tach. $32 on ES and SportOmega, $97 on all others.

Something else interesting - the brochure says the standard wheel trim on the SportOmega was the (PA4) deluxe wheel disc painted body color. The salesman's specs says the standard wheel trim was the N86 polycast wheel, and that the PA4 wheel trim wasn't even available. Also not available was the PO3 Rallye wheel trim, shown on the car in the brochure! Non-painted deluxe wheel discs weren't available, nor were plain wheels with trim rings. But wire wheel covers, with or without locks, were available. Wire wheel covers - on a SportOmega... :eek: Blackwall tires were standard, white letter and whitewalls were optional.

Gotta love the '80s.

Collectible Automobile magazine did an article on these cars in the June 99 issue and the pictures they showed had wire wheel covers. I bought a copy of the article off ebay. There is actually another Sport Omega here in the Mpls/St.Paul area. A guy I contacted this summer after I left him my phone number on his 81 Omega Brougham just bought one off Craigslist from somewhere in Ohio. I'm hoping to get stop by his house and get some pictures of it soon. He sent me a couple pics from his phone and it has the 13" polycast wheels. I've got a long way to go on mine, it had a rough life. Aside from the drivers spindle/wheel bearing from what appears to be literally trying to drive it until the wheel does fall off- they even started sticking an iron duke in place of the V6 they must've blew up. Well, It has a V6 back under the hood now. A hybrid 3400/3.4-- That is it's a front drive 3400 that has been set up with the iron heads/carb intake. I needed some other parts to make that work, you have to get the pistons for a Camaro/Firebird 3.4 V6 to maintain the 9 to 1 comp. ratio. There's a big difference in combustion chamber size between iron and aluminum heads.

Yes, it was in the dirt after sitting in the junkyard for 15 years. The last registration tabs on the plates expired in 93. I was at the yard getting stuff for my 87 Shelby Charger I converted to rear wheel drive and I saw it sitting by the old Chargers and 'Cudas area. The Charger is pretty cool too, I've been working on that for about 5 years. I still have to get a fresh coat of paint. But it now has a GM L67 S/C3800, T-5 5 speed, and an independent rear suspension taken from one of the all wheel drive Pont. 6000STE's.

Just an update, thought I'd refresh this post. Still looking for a rear flare. I'll fix the one I have but still keeping an eye out. for a new one, haha. Anyway, I've gotten the kinks out of the roof and I'm currently at fixing the floor. I thought I'd throw up a few pics of the Charger now that I got it painted this past summer.
