Interior paint color

I have a 1937 40 that looks like the interior metal has been painted blue. The exterior color is Windsor Gray and the interior cloth is a tan color. Can someone tell me what color the interior metal should be?

Larry, for original cars, I've never seen anything but a woodgrain pattern on the interior metal.

The steering column, gearshift, etc., were painted a medium metallic brown. The wood graining, as I understand it, was a decal that was applied before the instrument panel, window garnishes, etc. were stamped. If the graining is gone or has been painted over, you either need to find a wood grainer, or if you're handy and adventurous, buy one of those wood graining kits and have a go at it. Check Hemmings for crafts people and supplies. I'm sure someone on the forum can supply good pictures of original wood grain.

I'm certain that it wasn't freehand painted. I've heard that it starts with a based color and then a wood grain pattern is somehow transferred from an etched pattern plate to the base color. There are a few who still do this for restorations.

Tower Paint sells the metallic brown paint for the steering column, ...well at least for '38s. I think the color is a little different for '37.
