Guest WRa5300745
 A number of 16 Vs that I have looked at have low oil pressure ( line mid way between zero and half way point) and high RPM (2,000) at idle.Is this normal? Also can any of you tell me what the normal oil pressure and RPM should be on a cold 16 V engine? Is low ?? oil pressure and high RPM(2000) an indication of somethimg to be concerned about. Also what is best way to determine problems with a turbo. Still looking:confused:.e-mail - stonebridge711@verizon.netMarvin R Edited November 21, 2009 by WRa5300745 Left off e-mail address (see edit history)
MazingHL
Stock gauge is not to be trusted, the oil pressure sensor can and does go bad. Use a mechanical oil gauge to check. If the car doesn't smoke, and makes boost, the turbo is working great.
TwinCamFan
I Agree somewhat with Mazing, stock guages are inferiror to just about any gauge you could put in there! Replace the sender unit, if very low pressures perssist. consider a set of rod bearings or an oil pump
Guest pnsurfin
The car should idle at just below 10,000 rpm. Replace the oil sender first before going further.Patrick
ghostymosty
10,000 rpm??????? I think you meant just below 1000 rpm.
Guest My TC Toy
Or is he running a turbine????????????????????/Now there's a thought. Anyone do that conversion?
Guest My TC Toy
Marvin,To answer your question, the 16V engine should have 4 PSI at idle and 25 PSI at 3000 RPM. The high RPM pressure could be as high as 80 PSI. Normal operating temperatures.Like Mazing said, it is better to check with a more accurate oil filled guage.Bob
