jonlabree
I would like to know from all of you fellows that have changed transmissions. If the 4T60 from , say late model Pontiac would bolt right in to a 90, with no changes. If there are mods that have to be made, could you explain to me.. D-a-n-i-e-l
I would go with a 4t60-E out of a SC modle. Yoy will need am axle from a 91 reatta or other Ebody. Also you will need the Shift select switch, (ECM/PCM), and you have to have the lower tranny mount modified.

padgett
As long as not racing, the 4T60 is fine. 1991 was the latest & every Bonneville had one. They did come in quite a number of axle ratios: 2.73, 2.84, 2.97 , 3.07, 3.33, and 3.73 AFAIR. 2.84, 2.97(88-90 Reatta), & 3.33 are the most common. The code on the trans will tell but you need an index to the codes.

Guest Road mister
On transmissions, I just changed my filter & fluid over the weekend on the 89 Reatta, all factory. 2 local parts stores computers say the factory tranny is a TH 4T60, and recommended the $7.00 per quart Castrol Vl synthetic fluid. This is my first chance to get online since getting a new internet provider. The previous owner had the transmission overhauled about a year ago and I couldn't determine what type fluid was in it. It took 5 quarts of synthetic. Car ran fine before and seems good now. Old fluid and pan were in pretty good shape. Should I be concerned if it had regular fluid prior? Mixing OK?
