GSX info needed

I'm in the market for a REAL GSX. I know that in 70 they were made in either saturn yellow or apollo white. Is there a special paint code I can look for to tell if it is a real GSX ?? Also, what other things can I look for on the car to assure that it is a real GSX? And I would also like any info on the possible 71-72 GSX's. Some people say that they only made a GSX in 70, yet I have seen 71 & 72 GSX's advertised for sale. If they did make 71 & 72 GSX, what motors did they come with? Did they ever make a "350" GSX? Any info would help. Thank you.

1970 GSX cars were a model unto themselves with their own model number of 44637. They only came with a 455 motor. I believe they were all built in Flint, which would be the letter H in the VIN. Saturn Yellow paint code is QQ. The 124 1971 and 44 1972 GSX cars were an option package to the GS model 43437. Since the 455 was also an option, some of the 1971-2 GSX cars could have been produced with a 350 motor. Documentation is the key. A build sheet is almost a must on these cars to help verify them; especially the 1971-2 cars. Do a lot of research and be prepared to pay big $$$ for a legit one.<P>------------------<BR>1972 GS 455 4-speed <BR>1990 Reatta convertible<BR>1990 Regal GS

The paint code for a white GSX is 10-10 for Apollo White. The 44637 refers to the code for GSX and is the first digits of the VIN.The 71 GSX had a regular GS VIN,the GSX package was an option on a GS. The front spoiler and hood tach was optional on 71-72 GSX and standard on 70s.The 71 was available in 5 colors.I had a 71 GSX and a 70 GSX if you need any other info. Happy Hunting....Pat

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the 70 GSX was an option on the GS455, just like the stage 1 was an option. The model number for a '70 GS455 (hardtop) is 44637 and this was the same weather it was a Stage 1 or a GSX. The only way to tell if the car is a true GSX is from the Build sheet, just like the only way to tell a true '70 Stage 1 is to check for "SS" on the engin block and "BB" on the automatic tranny. Be very careful when spending big bucks on a GSX, without documentation it could be a standard GS455.<P>In '71 & '72 the GSX was an ornamentation package and could have been ordered with a 350 CID. Only 124 GSX's were built in 71 and 44 in 72. It could also be ordered in different colors in '71 & 72.<P>The bottom line is to make sure you are getting what you are paying for.<BR> shocked.gif<BR> <P>------------------<BR>'68 GS400 Convert

I have just completed a nut and bolt frame off resto on a numbers matching 70 GSX. There are quite a few ways to tell if the 70 GSX is correct but I would demand a build sheet on any 71-72 GSX's. The QQ paint code on the 70 Saturn Yellow cars gives you a clue, but to be sure the VIN can be run through a service I have contact with that obtained the original microfiche from Buick that documents the 70 GSX's. The 10-10 (white top, white bottom)code for the Apollo White cars was also used on other Skylarks and GS's so you have to be careful that you have other documentation to back it up. Feel free to email me if you need any additional info. byoung3744@aol.com

IN REPLY TO YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT GSX'S,<BR>THEY WERE PRODUCED IN 1970 IN ONLY WHITE AND YELLOW. THE PAINT CODE FOR YELLOW IS QQ.<BR>I OWN A YELLOW ONE AND I HAVE A GOOD FRIEND WHO HAS A WHITE ONE. I CAN GET THE PAINT CODE FROM HIM FOR YOU. I CAN GET YOU JUST ABOUT ANY INFO YOU NEED ON GSX'S BETWEEN OUR CARS AND THE BOOKS ON GS CARS THAT I HAVE. MY FRIEND AND I TOGETHER OWN A TOTAL OF 5 GS'S. GSX'S WERE PRODUCED IN 71 AND 72 BUT IN VERY LIMITED NUMBERS. TOTAL PRODUCTION FOR ALL THREE YEARS WAS 647 CARS. THERE WERE APPEARENTLY A FEW 350 GSX CARS BUILT BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY. THEY ARE WORTH FAR LESS THAN 455 CARS SO KEEP THAT IN MIND. BY FAR THE MOST DESIRABLE ONES ARE THE 455 STAGE 1 CARS. I KNOW OF SEVERAL PEOPLE LOOKING FOR GSX'S AND IT TOOK ME 2 YEARS TO FIND MINE SO YOU ARE IN THE HUNT FOR A RARE FIND. THEY ARE GREAT CARS AND I LOVE MINE. TRY LOOKING IN HEMMINGS AND THE OLD CAR TRADER FOR ADDS. THEY SOMETIMES SHOW UP THERE EVERY MONTH OR 2. IF YOU ARE ABLE TO LOCATE ONE AT A REASONABLE PRICE DON'T HESITATE OR IT WILL BE GONE. THE MOST DIFFICULT THING IS DECIDING WHAT IS REASONABLE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CALL ME TO TALK ABOUT GSX'S OR ASK QUESTIONS, I WOULD BE HAPPY TO HEAR FROM YOU. MY OFFICE # IS 210-349-9497 IN SAN ANTONIO TX. MY E-MAIL ADRESS IS GSXTRA@EV1.NET GOOD HUNTING<BR> RANDY TAUSCH
