I have over 1,000 Parts Books & Accessory Books. I look up part numbers for people all the time. You can't look up a part without a group and part number. Chassis & Body Parts Books do not have pictures next to every part number Jim!

Why are you and others so mean spirited? If this web site doesn't want us to ask for help to identify parts, they should eliminate this identification forum. Is it that hard to TRY to be nice? GT Rfd, Ill.

If you only have the part number there's still hope! smile.gif

Do you have any GM "Dealer Parts and Accessories Price Schedules"? If all you have is the part number you can look it up in one of these (they're in numerical order regarless of group or application), and it will give the group number. It's a great resource for things like this when only the part number is shown on the box or part.

They are limited by Division, however, so you'll need one for Chevy, Buick, Olds, etc. They also are (at least for Buicks) published in the same ranges as that year's parts book (e.g. My schedule and parts book are from 1964, and both range back to 1940 on most items).

Of course if you don't even have the part number it's going to be tough.

<span style="font-weight: bold">ouch, you WAY misunderstood my post ...</span>

<span style="font-weight: bold">MOST</span> all GM parts have a number cast on the back which <span style="font-weight: bold">USUALLY</span> relates to the part

since it was a Cadillac part, it would be easy to look it up in the appropriate book to get the exact application

not sure where the "mean spirited" portion came into play, we are always helpful here and I have noticed you have been asking a lot of questions on a lot of the parts you bought out from the closed dealers so I made an assumption that having part books would make it easier for you ...

Jim, Anyone who has been around parts for a long period of time learns that "stamping" numbers on the back of the part are NOT always the OEM Part Number.

Look, all I wanted was some kind person to help me identify these parts. When I am asked to identify parts for someone, I don't get into suggestions, debates, etc. I look the items up and give them the results. That is all I am hoping for here.

When I buy out a Dealer, I get hundreds of boxes and I spend hundreds of hours looking thru Parts Books to identify them. However, there are always used parts and parts with no boxes and then I need to get a little help from other enthusiasts. I figure I spend enough time helping others, helping identify their parts, so I maybe can get a little help for myself. That is all I am asking for. GT Rfd, Ill.
