Guest
I just bought a 90 Convertible (on e bay) I haven't seen it yet but the seller seemed very nice and gave me all sorts of info. He is delivering it for free. (From Ohio to Ct.)
What kind of problems should I look for. I have owned an 89 cpe and 90 cpe.Had no problems with either one. Just had to have a ragtop before I go to the big garage in the sky. I'm giving it to my self for my 73rd birthday. If it works out I will Drive it to Dallas in June and return to Ct in July. Any suggestions for me before I take this 4000 mile round trip will be greatly appreciated. I will register in this club after I get the car. ctbfo8@aol.com
FlyByNite
A good starting place is HERE it is a simple brake test, better a car that won't go than one that won't stop. Guest Brolliar
Charlie B, great to hear you got a Reatta convertible. Did you buy the white one Dave Lane was selling? It was in Akron, Ohio. I was very tempted by it.
My brother and I both have Reattas. He lives in Dallas and could help if you have any problems while you are down there. Our experience on Reatta weak points is just minor things. I replaced both headlight door motor plastic drive cylinders and the drivers side window motor. the headlight door fix was $5 per door and the window motor was $95. My brother had two door window motors go out and one headlight door crank arm. http://www.reatta.net in its FAQ is a good source for help on most problems. It has a simple washer fix Barney Eaton worked out for the headlight door crank arm.
Before you make your trip you should do the brake test at http://www.reatta.net/brakes.html . The ABS brakes on the 1988 to 1990 are a Reatta weak point. Follow the forum and you will see the brakes come up quite a bit. More comments later.
The Reatta convertible is really distinctive. I feel sure you will really enjoy it.
Barney Eaton
Congratulations on your purchase.
You can do the brake test, and you should also flush the brake fluid unless the previous owner has done it within the last two years.
If you can plan your trip with a stop in Kokomo around July 11-13 you will be among the largest gathering of Reattas since they left the assembly plant.
If everyone shows that has said they are coming, we will have some collection of Reattas. Chazzman
Charlie B,
Reference your headlights, make it a practice not to turn on/off your headlights going over 40mph. This prevents the windstream from stressing the plastic parts of the headlight doors. Even then, expect to have minor difficulties with the doors from time to time. Enjoy the car.
