MochetVelo
I'm importing a 1953 Mochet car from France to the USA, so I've been researching the subject of vintage car importation. I'm sure this has been covered somewhere on this site, but I can't find it. Anyway, here's what I've found so far:A car must be at least 21 years old to avoid EPA and DOT compliance requirements. Otherwiser, it must be altered to comply (=$$$).Two forms must be completed for import:EPA Form 3520-1DOT Form HS-7US Customs will charge an import duty, but they seem to have no special forms required other than the the usual import documents (Bill of Lading, Invoice, etc.). Many old cars no longer have their original paperwork, but I assume a valid-looking Bill of Sale will suffice (we'll see...). I've imported other things, so I assume the procedure is similar. Basically, Customs can do anything they want to your car including impounding, inspection, uncrating, etc. You're helpless to stop them, amd can only pay what they charge you.Anyway, any advice would be appreciated from those with experience!Philip JamisonPennsylvania
