I recall reading back in early 2020, the county took over the fairgrounds (Site of the swap meet.) for covid facilities and homeless housing. I thought this was the No. 1 reason for the demise of the Bakersfield Swap Meet. Someone needs to do some fact checking.

When Covid hit - the fairgrounds

    were utilized for public immunization

    and scheduled events

    were postponed and/or canceled.

The Spring Pre War Swap Meet

    was one of those events.

    The fairground event schedule

    returned to normal before

The Spring Pre War Swap Meet.

I know this because I was in

    communication with the

    director of the fairgrounds.

    But that didn’t matter because

    the decision had already been

made not to continue the event

    before Covid hit.

    Those are the facts.

Not to nit pick, but you seem to contradict yourself. How did the HCCA " local group " " shut it down ", and "stonewall " the well respected person if they did not own it ?

This link from 2019 states it is a joint venture of the HCCA and the Kern County Model T Ford club.

I may be mistaken but I believe the Model T club joined forces with the HCCA in relatively recent times and prior to that it was solely a HCCA event. Easy enough to look up as I have Gazettes going back to the 1950's and the Bakersfield event was always promoted in the Gazette.

It doesn't really matter, good on your friend for putting together the current event. 28th Annual Bakersfield Swap Meet 2019 – Model T Ford Fix

The facts are as I have related them.

I promote the pre war hobby for

    the good of the hobby.

    I attended

    The Bakersfield Swap Meet

    over the years several times.

    I live streamed and shared

    videos to my

    YouTube channel - Facebook

and social media at my own

    personal expense.

    I promoted and covered the

event when it moved up to

    The Ag Center in 2022

    leading up to the

    swap meet with unrestricted

    access to the facility.

That's unfortunate. Hard to see how the event had "run its course". I expect it more of a case of the members of the local group getting up there in years and no longer able to get the person power together to run the event. Is the new event going to be advertised in the HCCA Gazette ?

    The Bakersfield Swap Meet

    had not run its course.

There was at least one person

who is long established and well

respected in the Pre War Community

that was in constant contact and

offered to assist and/or take over

the event but he was stonewalled.

    The Bakersfield Swap meet never

” belonged “ to any car organization

or club - it was successful because

    the hobby supported it.

Unless the Horseless Carriage Club of America is involved I doubt this will be much like the Bakersfield meet of the past. It's absolutely a nice touch that an area will be provided for pre war stuff, but otherwise I don't see any indication this meet will be any different from any other general car hobby meet.

The local chapter of The HCCA

    decided The Bakersfield Swap Meet

had run its course so they shut it

down - rather than allow others

    to continue the event.

I heard that directly from one

of the members that had been

    involved since the early years.

Having a pre war swap meet

    at a local established privately

    owned business and having

    a respected California

    native manage it puts the

success or failure in the hands

of the Public where it belongs.

  5. My good friend Jim Holguin
    has a reputation organizing
car events in and around Visalia, CA.

Jim was approached by  the owners
of Famoso Drag Strip outside of
Bakersfield , CA to take over the
planning of their Spring Drag Swap.

    Jim was approached about reserving
spaces for Pre War Vendors and he
    has graciously provided an area.

This is not being promoted to the
general public so if you want folks
coming out - you have to spread
the word for it to patronized.

  6. I assume you are not going

    to the manufacturer for

    warranty service ?

Then you need to find a good

    “ meat & potatoes “ welder

    to fabricate a sturdy means

    of attaching the ramp door

    to the frame.

My primary welder is in the

    countryside near Iowa City, IA

    and primarily works on farm

    equipment.

  7. Do you own or have access to

    a Smart phone ?

Does the Seller own or have

access to a Smart phone ?

    Have the Seller bring the

vehicle to a well lit area

    with strong cell phone coverage.

    You position yourself in

an area with strong cell service.

Both of you clear your schedules

and find a suitable time of day

to have a live video call.

    Arrange to have an assistant

for each of you to handle the

    phone to you both can

    communicate without

    fumbling with a phone.

    Easiest way to get live

    answers to your questions.

  8. I received a call yesterday

    from the Grandson.

The car is not available to

be viewed - the tires have

deteriorated - it is on rims

and it needs to roll in and

    out of the storage box.

The car will be kept on

a shelf in storage and not sold.

  9. I had time this morning and

    called the company and was

able to speak with one of

    the Grandchildren.

    The company is now three

    generations of family

    ownership and most likely

going to be four with luck.

    The car collection is private

and has been reduced but they

    still have that car.

It sits up on a shelf in a

    custom container that was

    used to transport it everywhere.

The Family will never sell it

but it might be possible to

be seen by a car club or

    group with advance notice.

I am waiting for a return call.

  10. If you are concerned about

    vandalism or theft - don’t

    leave a vehicle unattended.

    Car clubs/groups/friends

    traveling together park

    their vehicles in groups

    and take turns guarding

    them so someone is always

    keeping an eye on things.

    If you are traveling alone

    then stay with your vehicle

    as much as possible.

If you have to stay at a motel

    find an independent one off

    the major roadways and check

in at least an hour before sunset.

Get a room with a view of

your truck & trailer and park

in a manner that the vehicle

    you are trailering cannot be

    unloaded and your trailer cannot

    be separated from

    your tow vehicle.

    Disable your tow vehicle so

    it cannot be started.

    Stop Theft Before It Happens.

  11. Having anything out for delivery

for days is becoming more common

    for all domestic parcel delivery

    companies …

I waited two weeks for an Amazon

    Prime delivery in Michigan recently.

    Their logistics system showed

    multiple delivery attempts - when

in fact - no delivery attempts were

    ever actually made …

If you are selling parts today  - the best way to limit liability is to put in

your advertising “ local pickup only”.

If someone outside your area wants

you to ship to them - only do it if

they choose the shipper and pay for

    independent packing.

    You can recommend a prospective

    Buyer purchase insurance but that

is up to them to do.

    Times have changed.

    The largest domestic parcel delivery

service as of November 2023 now is Amazon - they are setting the benchmark for delivery timeframes

    and return policies and insurances

claims - all of which are decreasing

    overall in customer satisfaction:

    https://www.mdm.com/news/featured/featured-blog/amazon-is-now-the-top-delivery-business-in-the-u-s-and-its-lead-is-set-to-expand/

Most Sellers cannot afford to take

the hit when something they shipped

arrives damaged or never shows up.
