  1. Well, I might as well get in on this... this is my 1st new car we bought back in 69, a Fairlane Cobra. Loved it, but the 1st engine exploded and a few years later the transmission broke the main-shaft.  Probably nothing at all to do with me nearly constantly racing it, ha !  Yep, that's me posing with my new pride and joy the day I got it at a little park by Lake Worth.... sigh.....

  2. My current "what I am working on" may possibly get the Most Boring award.. Karen's '07 Mini decided to kill it's own drivers side window motor. BAH ! The  REAL Mini ( 1963 ) under the sloppy cover has reliable sliding windows, ha !  My next project should be more satisfying as an order for a disc brake setup for my 55 Studebaker is in the mail headed my way !

  3. I should have put this pic with the one I've already posted, but I didn't take my test in this car, I just owned it !  Two of all drivers controls, 53 Studebaker, 6 cylinder,  3 speed, Acme Drivers Training car from Antioch, TN. ( part of Nashville by now ) When I bought it, the trunk was full of old empty oil cans. The guy wouldn't sell the car for years because he couldn't find the title..... I went to look at the car, folded down the passenger side visor, and the title fell in my lap ! It sure was strange with two steering wheels, and I bet the previous owner had a lot of fun driving from the passenger side or having a passenger drive while the "driver" held both arms up, ha !

  4. Hmmm, this is strange, as most of the folks I have met are just neat people that lots of other folks know their names. Anyway, here are the ones that really meant or still mean a lot to me:  Dick Scritchfield ( L.A. Roadster founder and great friend), Jack Roush (met at the Great Race stop in Florence, AL.), Don and Pat Garlits (met him at races, her at the museum), Connie and Scot Kalitta (met at races and worked on some of their aircraft), Paul Adams (one of the head guys at the old Ford Plant in Sheffield, AL. and also was part of the Pantera manuals program for De Tomaso), Bob Bourke (at the SDC show in Nashville, TN.), Ed Iskenderian (at the 50th Roadster Show Anniversary luncheon),  Carroll Shelby (at the Shelby Meet in Nashville, TN.), Dennis Gage, (met at several car shows), Gene Snow (at races and his car lot in Ft. Worth), Jungle Pam Harvey...( a real mover and shaker back then, ha !) John Surtees (met him at Barber's... He won both 2 and 4 wheel world championships), George Barber (Barber Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, AL.), Dale Walksler, ( He was Mr. Motorcycle Everything as far as I'm concerned. 1st met him in The Great Race in Nashville, TN.), ...... so many other folks just as important to me, but not as well known to most.... Car and bike people are SUCH good folks !

  5. I have loved cars.... all cars.... since the 1st one I saw apparently... only had a little over 150 of 'em so far, but do lean more toward things from 72 back.  I can NOT leave them alone though, something to make it mine must be done when I get one, wheels, a pinstripe, glass packs, just anything.  I've said before, the manufacturers just finish them to a certain point, then we get 'em to "finish" properly, ha !  Now, to put a confessional seal on my car insanity, if a really nice 1961 Falcon Ranchero came up, well, been there and done that, but I love those little buggers !  My favorite 30s car we've had was a 38 Packard 2 door (110 series I believe), 40's was a little Standard Flying 8 Tourer, 50's is probably my current 55 Studebaker coupe, although when I was 17 years old, my 56 Chevy wagon was numero uno, and Karen's 55 T-Bird is close too, 60's..... too many favorites to pick an absolute winner, 70s was my 72 Pantera, 80s would have to be the MT-5 Taurus we had, 90s..... hmmmm, guess my 94 F-150,.... 2000s ?  So far nothing can match the perfect time and service we had with our super great looking (yes, I "fixed it up") F350 4 door diesel 2 wheel drive pick-up. My wife's favorite cars ever have been her 2006 Mustang GT and her 2008 Miata retractable hardtop fun buggy !  SO, to finish off this boring story, here I am with my Aunt's Plymouth when I was 2, and a few weeks ago with one of my current loves, the Studebaker coupe.   By the way, the little 1963 Austin Mini is BY FAR the most "fun & commented on" car we've had, and we still have it because as Karen says, "it's family", ha  !  ( OOPS, better include Karen's "baby" she loved so much. )

  6. Michael C Wauhop, our salty cars may rust a bit faster, but the best thing to do is enjoy the thing while it's rusting, then get something else. You can own more cars in a salty area because of this, but be sure to ship each of your replacement cars from a dry area, ha !

  7. In 1967 right after I had my car re-painted, put in a very modified 289 Hi-Po engine, new shocks, springs re-arched, and a fancy set of Goodyear Blue Streak tires, this Plymouth shown below passed us on an straight section of road out in the country with one headlamp and no tail-lights. We all remarked about it and went about a mile on, then there he set in the road... I swerved to the left to miss him, and he stomped the gas and turned directly sideways which is where he still was when I got him at about 50 or 55 mph as it was all too sudden to avoid.. There were 5 of us in my Falcon, two in the Plymouth.  The Falcons heart lived on in a 61 Ranchero (all the drivetrain and other parts) but I sure hated losing my little Futura. We were each banged up, but nothing serious.  The moron that had been driving the Plymouth that night later hit two ladies head on and it not only killed them, but himself too.

  8. Finished up the "1963 Mini-Fix" yesterday, but had to ask a Proper Englishman over to bring his knowledge and also his "Color-Tune" device for final tweeking. I've changed a lot of worn parts on the little car, and finally satisfied with it to get it back to normal use.  Had it since 87 or 88, so kinda' like the little thing. Put it back in the shed, put the 55 Studebaker back in the garage, and working up the courage to start changing the valve seals on it.  Sure hate to tear apart something that works so perfectly, ha !
