  1. How do you all handle the guy that places a local wanted ad? I saw one for an " I buy boat motors". Call xxx-xxx-xxxx, I called. And told him I had one still attached to the boat, make a reasonable offer. He texted back $ 1.00. I responded get realistic, come look, bring cash, take it home. Never heard from him again. LOL.

  2. Hello all.

If I remember correctly the originals were clincher 20 x 2, however many Red Bugs, Briggs & Stratton have had replacement rims replaced with non clincher. Personally I have a set of each.

Jed Rappaport assembled a very large display of Red Bug at a past AACA national meet there should be pictures on this site somwhere.

If anybody out there has extra Red Bug Parts. Drop me a line.

    Thanks Fred D

  8. Friar here is a little history, I first had my Packard chassis blasted, primmered and finished with Sherwin Williams Acryld however the folks who did it kind of got it backwards, the places that are unseen, under the body, were done great however everything else that can be seen left a lot to be desired. I had some areas that where not covered and the primer was exposed. Some areas were never sanded and had the appearance of heavy overspray. After a long time I decided to regroup and get back to work.

I decided to have sub-assemblies powdercoated that worked out well except different material, eg. cast parts, thick gauge steel, light gauge steel all turned out with a different finish. I decided that since I heard that the powdercoat would be a good primer I talked to the PPG folks and they recommended that the ALK would work to recoat both the chassis and the powdercoat pieces thus allowing touch up if necessary which would be difficult if the powdercoat itself was the final finish. I have used their Delstar products with great success, and took their advice. Seemed easy enough, and that is where I am today I was going to go back to Sherwin Williams but that didn't seem to pan out either.

I guess I will still keep experimenting to find the desired finish.

    Thanks again Fred

  9. Hello all antique auto enthusiasts, I would like some input, if anyone has any input concerning a PPG product called ALK-200. I have read the tech data sheets and have calculated the mixing formulas, and was wondering if anyone has used this product for restoring a Packard chassis and other parts that require a lower gloss finish than out of the can gloss.

I will also be using the DX-10-FLT to bring down the gloss to the level desired also using the ALK-201 Polyurethane enhancer, AKA hardener.

Any knowledge or experience would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you Fred D

  10. Hello Restorer32

I just checked my Chiltons flat rate & tune up Manual the 1932 Light Eight 900 has a listing of the mfr's part number as 5028025 for the distributor assembly.

However in the ignition timing section for the 903 & 904 it says "Distributor stamped no. 5,031,262 spark occurs on the standard head at 9 degrees before TC, High compression head at 7 degress before TC, and low compression head at 14 degrees before TC. " That is the only reference to the number you have. The same info is listed for the 900 except it has the word "and up" after the number but doesn't state "stamped no."

I know it is as clear as mud but that is all I have available.

  11. Good morning all

To PEPCAK if you can view the pictures that OZSTATMAN posted mine is exactly like that one, only Mal's is in much better shape.

To OZSTATMAN thanks again for the pictures, mine is brass and right now the engine is in the shop and is being ready to set the valve train, but however like the guy in the shop says, right now it is better in his shop than my garage, since I need to do more work on the chassis. The only thing still needing rebuild for it is the fuel pump. I really need to get things moving on this.

To PACKARD 42 thanks for the referral, it is information and communication like that makes this a great hobby.

I have electronically met very many great people since working on this project.

After I restart working on the car I wll be posting more info on the Packard Info Blog. And placing info on where all of the various parts were restored.

    Thanks again

  12. To all thank you for all of the replies. To hopefully answer a few concerns.

I don't know about anything newer than, as of yet the 1901 series. So here is what I JUST found out. Packard group number for the part is under 5.0531 Manifold Assembly, Cylinder, Water. The part number 320619 fits 1601-1A 1D-2, 1701-1, A-2, 1801-1a, & 1901-1A. The 6 cyl number is 320598 fits1600, 1700, 1800, 1900.

Thanks BIG KEV for posting the parts manual on the Packard Info webpage. It saved me locating my copy.

To PEPCAK no you dont, need to see the eye DR. I had trouble locating the info myself and I have the reference books.

To BKAZMER I still need to research that one also as I have a later Packard block out in the garage.

To Steve_Mack_CT I talked with JD & Fred as late as last week and no definite time frame for the repros.

Mine was removed in one piece, however it is dented in many places and is coored through in 2 places. I haven't quite figured out how to straighten it and patch it, other than that it is in pretty good shape. I have some ideas but havent put them

into action yet. The sad part about this is that is only a few thousands thick.

    Thanks again everybody
