  1. Fabulouscar.

If your inclined to re-connect the Startix, I suggest you follow the instructions on that great tag you have. One of the common forum followers services and restores the Startix, if required. When searching for spares, which are common, please note that there are 6V and 12V versions, so watch for the correct one. While there is much written about the dis-advantages of the Startix, there are also quite a few cars that are extensively driven that have retained the Startix.

I'm very curious as to what tires you find hiding under those sidemount covers.

  2. The problem is that the shop manual will direct you to use the special Kent Moore tool...

You can use the weight of the car to compress the spring with a floor jack under the lower control arm, but if pieces are missing (like the front end) you may not get enough compression. I bought an internal coil spring compressor years (decades?) ago and have never had a problem. Get a good one.

There are many sugestions in this thread. I too have used the weight of the car to compress the spring with a floor jack under the lower control arm BUT I was confident that I could do so with an A body GM. Now that I'm less prone to taking risks, I also have a good spring compressor.

With this particular application, I have no idea if the weight of the car would be sufficient. If CDN224 is not inclined to use a spring compressor but try the floor jack method, Yes, chain the frame to the floor slab.

  3. RedVac,

If your safety is your primary concern, your daily driver should have lap and shoulder belts, airbags, a collapsable steering column, ABS and four wheel disc brakes. Your other driver should match your desires.

I travel on the busiest highway in North America in both my daily driver and my '70 Cutlass rag. I certainly drive much differently in the Cutlass due to it's stopping distance and the amount of occupant protection. This is not a reflection of the mechanical state of the Cutlass or my driving abilities, but an honest assesment of risk exposure.

By the way, I'm a traffic safety professional. Please excuse my "preaching"......it's somewhat natural.

  4. The Craven Foundation (CF) in Toronto had a few authentic models. That collect was closed in the 1980's and the model Bugatti's were purchased by someone in France. Sorry I don't have any photos. I do remember the full page ad in Hemings when these models were advertised for sale. I'll likely see the past curator of the CF over the next few weeks and I will ask for some details for you.
