  1. Sorry. My car was pretty complete with only 6000 miles on it. Only items I needed were the heater and body tags in the engine compartment and found them at Nostalgic Reflections in Washington State. Seveeral items for your 1954 sre currently on Ebay. Write him--he may have the other parts you need as it appeas he is parting out a '54. Good luck. Wish I were back in Talladega County.
  2. If you need an aluminum metal tag for your heater or a body tag, check out Nostalgic Reflections: nosref@peoplepc.com or telephone 1-509-226-3522 or write Jerry Turner at Nostalgic Reflections, P.O. Box 350, Veradale, Washington 99037. He can modify tags he has to fit just about any model of Mopar.
  3. I haven't been able to find one, but if you do I sure would like to buy the heater core cover in the engine compartment. It is the same as my 1953 Windsor Deluxe. By the way, is your car an automatic or straight shift. I believe that they dropped the fluid drive after the 1953 year model. Drove a 54 powerflyte Windsor in 1959 while I was living in Sylacauga. The owner of the Dairy Queen had a 54 New Yorker with the 331 Hemi. He brought it in for service at W.H. Solley Motors on Broadway up from the High School. After school, my dad, a Chrysler Plymouth mechanic, asked me to deliver the car to its owner who said he would drive me back. Did that car ever have power. It would run like a scalded dog. Ever since I have wanted a 54 New Yorker Deluxe with powerflyte. Oh, did you know that the powerflyte tranny had a rear pump and that you could push start the car. Can't do that with any other automatic. I always wanted to come back home but things didn't work out and I have been stuck in Florida.

  5. In what substance and for how long should the diaphram in an AC fuel pump for l953 Chrysler Windsor rebuild kit be soaked before reassembly? Thanks
  6. I don't what state you live in, but in Florida the motor number is used by the Dept. of Motor Vehicles on pre-1970 vehicles. Virginia also uses the motor number. On a Flathead six Spitfire Chrysler motor the number will be found on the left side of the motor just below the head up front. Good luck.
  7. The Firewall Pad itself is not broken, but the rubber strip along the bottom has become rock solid with age and rather than flex when one tries to tuck in the carpet it breaks. My initial idea was to pull the pad and carefully cut the stitching to the rubber strip. Then I planned to try to find a source for a matching rubber strip and have an upholstery shop stitch the rubber strip to the pad. Any help in finding a source for the rubber strip would be helpful. Your info enlightened me about this particular part of my car. Thanks a million for the info.

  9. 1953 Chrysler fuel tanks had a metallic type fuel filter <span style="color: #FF0000">IN THE TANK</span>. How can you clean the tank and <span style="color: #FF0000">COAT THE INSIDES WITHOUT CLOGGING THIS FUEL FILTER</span>.
  10. Hi Dennis: I agree with you about that pot metal chrome. Mine is smooth with no large visible pits. Fortunately it is all there and none of it is bent or cracked. Will have to get all of it re-chromed if I can ever get well from all of my surgeries. I am going to go back with red heater hose. Your post convinced me to do that. Thanks ever so much. chas
  11. Hi Rusty: I think it has to do with the slow acceleration and the torque at the rear tires is a lot more gentle than other transmissions. Drove 50 miles home from college in Alabama in five foot snow drifts through 5 highway patrol roadblocks. In each case they couldn't believe I had driven through the snow when Jeeps were being sidelined. The sand is real wicked when dry here in Florida. I have seen Jeeps and four wheel drive vehicles up to their axles in sand. I just cruise on by in my "Clunk o-matic" and smile.
  12. Thanks, Dennis: There is red hose on it currently and it only has about 6,000 miles on it. But, a lot can happen in 54 years. The receipts I have do not indicate a change in the heater hose, but who knows. Thanks again.
  13. Thanks, Rusty. After posting this post I have done some more research and basically came up with the same answer that you gave. For myself, I guess I will stick with my "clunk-o-matic". Two things I know from experience with this transmission. First, it will go places in snow and ice that a Jeep won't go, and Second, it will not get stuck in Florida sand inland or at the beach at Daytona.
  14. Thanks, Rusty. I thought that was the case from the research I had done. Just needed an expert like you to confirm it.
  15. Need help in identifying the correct color of heater hose to use on a 1953 Chrysler Windsor with 265 cu. in. "Spitfire" six engine.
  16. I am fairly sure that what you have is a "Fluid Torque DRIVE" converter connected to a "Fluid Drive Transmission". My l953 Windsor has such an arrangement. It uses the engine oil to feed the Torque Converter--NOT the Fluid Drive M-6 transmission. STEP 1. Drain the Converter from beneath the car by removing a plate on the bottom of the Converter. STEP 2. TURN the converter till a drain bolt appears, remove the bolt and drain the converter. STEP 3. Replace the bolt and washer in converter and TORQUE TO PROPER TORQUE (see shop manual). STEP 4. Now drain the Engine crankcase by removing the drain plug. Replace the drain plug AND tighten. STEP 5. If you ARE NOT replacing the oil filter add 12 quarts of 30 weight engine oil. IF you are replacing the oil filter add 13 quarts. STEP 6. Idle engine for FIVE MINUTES. Check fluid level. The details for all of this, plus checking the FLUID DRIVE TRANSMISSION can be found in Section IV and XV of the Chrysler Shop Manual. Check out the Online Imperial Club website. I believe they have an on-line shop manual for your car (The Chrysler New Yorker and Imperial had identical drive trains ).
  17. Has anyone ever converted a Chrysler 265 cu. in. six with Fluid Torque Drive and Fluid Drive transmission to a powerflite transmission and torque converter??? What kind of problems did you run into aside from different radiator and having to swap out the steering column and its gear shift w/drive range indicator? Powerflite was offered in late l953 and 1954 Chrysler Windsors.
  18. Hi Rusty: Thanks for your understanding. I am deeply appreciative of all of the trouble you have gone through for me. 53windsor
  19. Does anyone know of anyone restoring the autolite tags on generator and starters?
  20. Hi Rusty: I have sent you a long email to explain along with my address. Chalk it up to long series of medical problems. Yes, I definitely want the template. Did not receive any of your emails. email: chas@intergate.com
  21. hi: a template would be great. please indicate bend point measurement. Thanking you in advance. chas
  22. Go to NAPA and give them this non-NAPA NUMBER: According to my parts book this is the DeSoto parts number 117-924 for 1953-54 DeSoto V-8. NAPA should be able to convert the number over to their number and supply you with the freeze plugs you need. Good luck
  23. HELP: Need "Template" or actual fuel pump heat shield for 1953 Chrysler Windsor 251 or 265 cu. in. Spitfire Six engine
  24. WANTED: Template for a fuel pump heat shield <span style="font-weight: bold">OR</span> fuel pump heat shield for 251 or 265 cubic inch Chrysler "Spitfire" six. HELP!!!
  25. My '53 Windsor does not have a fuel pump heat shield. The Chrysler shop manual shows one, but the Mopar Passenger Car Parts List has no heat shield listed for the 53-54 Windsor 265 Spitfire six engine. A heat shield for the 251 cu. in. for prior years is listed. QUESTION: Does my '53 Windsor suppose to have a heat shield or not?
