NY only requires emission testing on OBD-II cars ('96 and up).  What did you mean by "hot smog place"?  Glad you got it sorted and back on the road!  ;)

There are places that if you slip them money they put the emissions tailpipe tester into another car. I assume that’s why the readings were ‘too good’ and they tagged the car.

we used to have a 25 year rolling exemption until it was terminated by the terminator.

Thank you all for the helpful information!

I’ve owned a 1948 Lincoln Continental for 16 years. It had belonged to my grandfather and he sold it 16 years before I bought it and found it and bought it back!

there are parts out there, mine has a mercury flathead 8 and has since the early 1970s when my grandfather bought it.

I have an article from the early 70s which stated that the 40-48 continentals were the next big thing in car collecting!

many of the parts are not horrible to find, some are still on the shelf believe it or not. I converted mine to a 12 volt and modern wiring. It was never going to win for all original car anyway with the Merc engine! I’d rather have my engine than the V12 the only issue I had with it was a bad timing gear back in 2008 or so.

  3. Coker is trash. It would be one thing if they were $75 a tire but their high prices along with very low quality is unacceptable.

I have a set I purchased in 2016 on my 48 lincoln. They cracked and were traded out in 2019/2020. They cracked again within a year.

I gave up and when they are replaced I won’t be going with Coker. They went around and cornered the market, and then give us a garbage product.

Has anyone had any experience with the Nexen N'Priz AH5 All- Season Radial tire offered by Amazon and, I presume, other outlets? They are inexpensive but have a good consumer rating. I'm considering them for my '68 Buick which is driven 500-1000 miles per year, summertime only. Good warranty, return policy and free "Prime" shipping. Amazon offers other WW's, too.

I have those on my 77 Seville, they are good, I have hankooks on my 82 Imperial and Milestar on my Mark V. Happy with all of them!

  5. So back on Easter Sunday I brought home this Mark V which had been off the road for about a decade. It barely ran due to a bad fuel pump and a grossly undersized battery.

Anyway, we got it back to spec replacing all the hoses, fluids, belts, alternator, ignition module, distributor contact, vacuum advance, A/C compressor, tires, shocks, EGR, vacuum hoses, turned the rotors, etc!

the last thing was to pass emissions it was sent to a referee some years ago due to smog irregularities. So I took it to a pre test place and they diagnosed two bad catalytic converters. So we replaced those and off I went to the state referee located at Rio Hondo college.

In California we do emissions testing back to 1976. This car got tagged by the state probably due to someone sending it to a hot smog place 10 years ago. So it was required to take it to the referee which are located at most of the California community colleges.

the guy was great! He was training his young college student as part of the automotive program and it was comical to watch this 18 year old not knowing how to shift the car or the surprised look he gave when trying to close the heavy doors!

anyway we passed in flying colors and now the Mark V is road legal once again!

  6. So with cars of the 70s and up there is lots of plastic and it’s all deteriorating, on my Mark V the marker lights were cracked and falling apart, there is someone on eBay that makes custom 3D printed ones.

So it got me to thinking that this is basically the future part of collecting cars of the 70s and up as the parts can and will need to be duplicated this way.

Lincoln Land in Clearwater, Florida, as previously

noted for other items, should also have the lenses you need.

They don’t for a reasonable price. For a used one they want $200 and they don’t have a driver side.

I'd like to hear more about that.  Where are you having it done?

There is a guy on eBay who is making them so we will see how it turns out, they are opaque compared to clear but the Lincoln emblem is more defined. I did also find a source that claims to have the original molds and will be making clear ones soon, they have passenger side available but I don’t want to purchase until I can buy a set.

    Well, she cleaned-up nicely.  ;)

Will it be difficult to find new bumper fillers?

I haven’t even had her buffed out yet.

the turn signal lenses I’m having 3D printed and will be custom

the front filler is one long piece and I haven’t found one yet.

next will be getting the carb rebuilt and I will be replacing all the hoses to the headlights.

Those tires probably have to go, but I actually think I like the blackwall tires on this car.  They play well with the silver and turbine wheels...  ;)

tires are all four mismatched tires from a few different decades, they will be gone tomorrow thankfully!

I thought you misprinted Gucci. I have never heard of Pucci. Writing is too small I cannot read the insert. Good looking car though. How many cars are parked in garages and left? I have heard of this a number of times. Keep us posted on the progress, looking forward to it.

He was a different designer and he was known for abstract designs. The Pucci is the rarest of the designer series.

  12. So for my birthday my wife asked me what I wanted and I said what else? A car! Years ago I regretted selling my Mark V and I’ve been looking for a reasonably priced one ever since. The prices on these have skyrocketed.  This time I wanted a designer series and I came upon this Mark V Pucci edition.

It has been sitting in a parking garage for the last ten years and it started ran and drove well, so after some negotiation and trade of a few bucks, I came home with the Mark V! It’s a work in progress but little things like the alternator, battery, carb and tires. The 460 sounds excellent and I’ve driven it around the block and everything is functioning correctly. Even the fluids are all clean!
