Can anyone refer me to where I can find the fuel tank routing on the '72 Riviera? Looks like there are at least four lines going to it. My fuel sending unit is not sending the right information and I have to remove it. I want to siphon most of the fuel out as the tank is almost full. Not sure which inlet or outlet line I should connect to, in order to siphon. Can't get a hose down the fuel filler as that is blocked with a spring or something.

Went to start a 1971 Buick Riviera that hasn't been running for a long time. Cranked over the engine to see if it would turn over okay and it did. But then I saw smoke coming from the right side of the engine compartment. The insulation was burning on the wire from the negative battery post wire to the chassis. There should normally not be any current flowing through this wire. Have never run across a problem such as this, which makes no sense. Do ANY OF YOU have any ideas?????Lee

Kaber I read your post about using an inspection mirror and getting the 4 digit code off of the door lock cylinder. How was this accomplished? Can you give me more detail? I cannot get the doors open so not sure what to do. The Riv is a '63.

The flywheel on the '26 engine weighs over 150 lbs alone. Along with the multiple clutch we are talking about over 200lbs of weight. Is all that weight necessary? I wouldn't think so since V8's use a flywheel & clutch assy that weighs 1/4 of that weight.
The question I have is, "Has there been anyone who has converted this huge flywheel weight & multiple clutch to a lighter flywheel and a regular clutch plate??"
Thanks/Lee

Restoring my engine. Can anyone tell me what the engine paint color was in year 1926. I believe they did paint the engines back then didn't they? For some reason I am thinking it was gray rather than the common green in the 60's etc.
If anyone knows and where to purchase the paint I would surely appreciate it.

Has anyone replaced the woodgrain vinyl on their upper door panels? Do you know where I can purchase some of this to match??
This stuff usually comes in a roll and in stores like Lowes it is called contact paper but don't think that would be durable enough. Would like to find some matching vinyl if possible. Is the woodgrain a teak on the Riviera?

Does anyone have any good inside door panels for a '73 Riv??? The door panels from a '71 - '73 Olds Toronado are almost identical. Or if anyone knows of a person who repairs vinyl up in the Northwest I would like to get his name. Not sure but it might be possible to save my one panel. The other one is okay.

I am at wits end, trying to get my rear quarter window to mate up properly. Just
could not get it to adjust properly. So thinking something was out of whack with
what I had, I purchased a different regulator. That was not the answer. The
quarter window I had would just not slide freely etc.. I discovered that someone
else had been into the window and had replaced the plastic pieces with some
metal wheels. It took me a while to figure that out. So I went again to find a
metal base unit to put on my window that had the correct plastic and swivel
bottom plastic. Got it all back together and I find that the top of the window
needs to move forward towards the door about 1/2 inch. I can see no way to
adjust this.
Can anyone give me any help at all? The only possible thing I can think of now
would be if perhaps there is some minimal adjustment between the glass and the
metal base. The plastic mounting pieces had inserts which entered into the glass
holes and prevented hardly any movement between the glass and the metal base
piece. But I am wondering if there might be enough to throw out the window
adjustment out that much. And if so, I am wondering why Bucik did so to mess you up.
If this is the only adjustment and it doesn't work I will have to take
everything out again and put back in which is no easy task for naught. I have
worked all afternoon on this and have gotten nowhere. Very frustrated. The door
window adjustment is fine across the top etc.. Thus the problem is with the
quarter window. WHAT TO DO??? Need your help badly!

Was wondering if anyone had any information on the best procedure to remove and replace the complete window mechanism for a 1973 Buick Riviera. I have the service manual for the '73 but nothing in it about the body. I also have the '73 Fisher body manual but it really does not have anything specific on the Riviera. Does anyone have any additional information or has taken one in and out and perhaps can guide me as to the best procedure? Your help will be appreciated.

p.s. I recently purchased a regulator w/o the motor and have no idea of how to rewind the spring and install a motor. How can one get the spring at the proper tension while installing it on the window arm slot?

Do not need the motor but will take it if sold as one complete unit.

I am desperately in need of help to get my sunroof working properly. The sunroof travels back and forth with ease but when it reaches against the front the rear will not raise. This has me completely stymied. I cannot figure out a solution. Is there anyone out there that can provide some help to me?? The two springs the compression spring on the pivot and the leaf spring seems to work against raising. The makers of the sunroof claim the springs are to prevent the panel from fluttering when the vehicle is driven at high speeds. Doesn't do any good if you cannot get it up there in the first place. Has anyone out there had this problem and solved it??? The design does not seem to be the best and to ask the small motor to raise the entire rear of the panel with just those two small pivots seems to be a huge task to ask of it. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have a '48 Olds hood ornament in very good condition with blue plastic inserts. I am looking for an ornament with amber colored plastic. Will trade.

Did "Journey With Olds" ever come out with a 10 or 20 year cumulative article index? It would sure make the magazines more valuable to save, and perhaps use for reference.

Okay finally found where the VIN numbers are on the '63 & '64. The manual LIED!! It is not on the pillar!! That is only true on the 1965. I could include a picture but I don't know how to link it to this message. Perhaps you can help me there. With picture it might help others. I could not find it as it was covered with dirt etc, and not knowing where to look did not help.

I wonder if someone can help me out to find the serial numbers on a few '63's & '64 Rivs I have. The manual states there is a plate on the left hinge pillar.
NOT SO!!! I have several Riv's and need to slim down a little. I found only one plate so far on the left pillar and it was on a 1965. The manual for the '64 & '65 state it should be on the pillar plate! I do not have a service manual for the 1963
and am wondering whatit says. Help anyone! Looked at several ‘63's & ‘64's and no plate or number!! Is there any other place they might have hid the VIN # ???? Your help appreciated.

I am trying to find the serial number location of a recent 1948 Olds that I bought from a wrecking yard. The literature I have states it is on the left front door pillar post. I cannot find it there. Is there any other place to look? Does the engine # match the auto serial number and if so where can I find it? It also is hiding. Help appreciated. Not sure I am posting on the right thread. I found the body plate under the hood however no VIN #.

1972 Riviera fuel tank
in Buick Riviera
Posted
I find it strange that no one has answered my request. I can find no correct info in the manual regarding which lines are which, going to the tank. I also need a new sensor and wonder if anyone knows of a source at a decent price. I also found that the fuel gauge is still reading full when I ground the line going to the sensor. And info here as to how I can pin point the cause assuming the gage itself is still functional? Hope there are some Riv nuts out there to assist. The sensor is definitely open.
