  1. Sorry; accidentally posted this previously under the "General" heading. What is the proper procedure for removal of the wiper arm from the stud? I don't want to risk damage to surrounding surfaces. Thanks to all! AD8
  2. Please advise, as I do not want to risk damage to surrounding surfaces; what is the proper technique used to remove the wiper arm from the stud? Thanks to all.
  3. After 40 years my original convertible top cover, though fuctional, needs replacement. I've seen many aftermarket covers; some very nice, others obviously of lesser quality (low weight material, poor or failing stitch work). Hemmings and the internet have an abundant supply of sources but I would like to hear from anyone who would care to pass along a recommendation for supplier whom they have dealt with and are happy with their work. Thanks, Jim BCA 43102

  5. Hi All, Experiencing problems with the detent mechanism. While the Big B does accelerate rapidly when asked in moving traffic, it is definately not dropping to the lower gear. I've checked the switch at the pedal and it is functioning fine. I've never had to replace the detent solenoid, which is mentioned in the trouble-shooting section of the factory manual. Before beginning the process, I thought I'd seek any advice worth sharing. Thanks, Jim BCA 43102
  6. I am in need of a horn (horns) for a '69 Electra. If anyone has one there willing to part with, let me know. Thanks, Jim BCA 43102 Chicago metro area
  7. Has anyone a suggestion for a source of replacement for the rear speaker of a '69 Electra convertible? I've been digging around auto parts and radio shops (not all bad) but the problem is this 6x9 needs to be very slim, 2 1/4" overall depth, to keep from contacting the trunk bulk head. I was hoping for NOS, but for now I'd be happy with a new after market that will fit until I can locate an original. Thanks to all, Jim BCA 43102
  8. Thanks Pete, I'll proceed along thoses lines. Jim
  9. What is the procedure for accessing and servicing the rear speaker for a 1969 Electra convertible?
  10. Thanks for the input, JD. If the conversion will only realize marginal improvement, as some members state; I will give this project a bit more consideration. Jim
  11. I'm planning to do a conversion to disc brakes on my '69 Electra conv. Before I hit the internet and bone yards, I was wondering if any members who have been down this road could offer any advice or guidance. Thanks
  12. Thanks for the reply, heidigirl. Would have responded sooner but out of town.I realize the roll pin functions as the tripping device, the problem is when the turn signal is set and the wheel turned, the pin trips nothing.I can turn the wheel from lock to lock but it makes no contact with any surface within the cancel mechanism (the collar you refer to) to cause the signal arm to return to neutral position.I'm sure it's something simple. I guess I just need to get a look at one that operates correctly.
  13. A little help, please- On a '55 Olds, is the directional signal self-cancel action accuated by anything other than the roll pin protruding into the mechanism from the back of the steering wheel hub? Was/is there a missing part that attaches to the pin? Is there a flexible vinyl component as in newer assemblies? The signals do not cancel and inspection shows no springs or moving parts broken or missing. When the signal is set and the wheel turned (no power steering) the pin makes no contact with any parts. I'm sure anyone who has solved this problem can shin a light. Thanks
