I was conversing Monday with a good friend and Tesla owner about his car. It seems that all I have heard about these vehicles is conjecture form non owners. Any service work for his car is performed in his driveway. The tech comes to the car. Including tire changes. Of course I dont think there is the maintenance associated with one of these that we are used to, oil changes, etc. I would surmise the techs are more a cross between a computer geek and a handy mechanic.

One of the kids my son went to high school with is a tech for Tesla. He was a tech for Audi prior and was hi-jacked by Tesla. He was offered anywhere he wanted to work in the country , he is now out in Huntington Beach California.  He was in town for the Holidays and stopped by to see my son who was in town as well.  He said it was real easy nothing really goes wrong, he did say older people are hard on touch screens. I did ask him if the vehicle was in an area where it could not be serviced what would he do and he told me they have local a GM dealership under retainer where he can have the vehicle transported to work on

In a perfect world your dogs would live as long as you do..............

True words, I never wanted another dog for years for that very reason, and we finally did. While I would love to have another dog now after he passed away , I could not go through it again

C.L.C. does require bias ply tires for judging. We drove from southern Wisconsin to Louisville Kentucky for Grand Nationals with the bias ply tires it was not a pleasant drive. Now that the roads are constructed with parallel groves cut into the concrete the Cadillac wants to follow the grooves it’s a constant battle to keep the car straight. With the radials on the car it is smooth sailing. To me it’s a safety issue making one drive on bias ply tires they don’t deduct for seat belts so why deduct where the rubber meets the rode. I know I could trailer the car or take our truck with the bias ply tires an change them there. We like to drive our Cadillac to the events that is half the fun.

    Regards,

    Bob

    Bob,

Bias ply's are DOT approved so,,,,,,,, bottom line it is the owners choice,

The seat belt comparison holds no water, you need seat belts to install a car seat.

I only watch it to see April Rose and the "sold ticket" lady.

I think it is a different April Rose, this one is too young to be the same girl from 20 years ago, and every time I was going to change the station the "sold ticket lady" kept me watching

Neither have I until a week or so ago. Apparently that wheel is on 49-50 Special Deluxe models.

Same dash on both models, clocks and radios were optional, the dash was not painted that bright and that color either in 1949 and 50. In 1950 it a was a  dark gray green color, and 49  I believe it was a metallic medium gray brown color. Same dash just different surround colors were used

I don't believe that to be the correct deluxe wheel for 1950 either.

  6. I just got off the phone with ebay, it was a very pleasant conversation. The representative explained to me that the threshold amounts are different in 9 states. The state I file my taxes in is New York and ebay does not have to supply a 1099 to anyone who grosses less then $20,000 by law in sales in NYS for 2022. I had made a little under that amount. He did say just because there was no 1099 that it would be my decision if I did not claim it. My Accountant last year told me to claim it and then I was just shy of $20,000 as well. His feelings are that there is too much of a paper trail with a big company, and that there was too much income for it to be an oversight on my end.

I know this requirement was pushed back until 2023 but it you received a statement you better be able to verify it.  I'm a low volume seller so in one month I had only 4 transactions.  I keep meticulous records for sale amount, postage received and spent and Ebay fees.  There is no way I can jumble the numbers from those 4 sales to match what Ebay has reported to the IRS.  I fear they have overstated my income by hundreds of dollars if not more.  I spoke to an Ebay representative and they advised me to prepare detailed documentation and send it to them so they can review and make corrections if needed.  This is absurd that I should spend my time assisting Ebay in correcting their errors.

So let me get this straight, Ebay did not make the mistake with the 1099? You misunderstood the 1099 and presumed it to be a mistake they made? rather then admit you just did not understand it. Don't get me wrong everybody, and every company makes a mistake. How did you get your 1099 delivered from EBay electronically?

I checked my seller hub for my 1099-K and EBay says "You don't have a 1099-K for for this year" and I sold well over 12K and 200 items. Did anyone else receive a 1099 other then Leomara from EBay this year

I can’t watch  much of them on TV, I get frustrated.

For example, a 1960ish Camaro comes on, and commentators start their speil, “This is the rare xyz model only built on odd numbered days of even numbered weeks on full moon days, note the special fluted lug nuts and double top stitched inverse redacted upholstery, this is the only model that came with a nine inch deep glovebox instead of the standard six inch, only 9 were made and 6 exist”.

Now, a 1930 Packard phaeton comes up.  Same commentators, “Well, I hear Packard was a pretty good car.  This is an open car with a piece of metal behind the front seat to hold a windshield”………as I’m yelling at TV …… IT’S A DUAL COWL PHAETON YOU IDIOT……

    David,

A lot of that is the consigners fault, that information is supplied by the consigner. I was partners in two vehicles that were taken to BJ Mohegan Sun and we supplied the information, the information we provided was fact checked and then cherry picked and worked into the script. So ultimately the consigner dropped the ball on the Packard and did not 'fluff' the car up enough, and presumed that everyone shared the same knowledge that you have on the car.

I can understand the frustration that when all of this production minutia is applied to a mass produced car built in multiple factories

  9. I owned this 50 Chevy up until a few years ago, I needed to make so room and it was the easiest car in the collection to sell. I bought it from a guy who placed a classified on our AACA website and I sold it through an ad in our AACA Magazine. The new owner has been visiting me at my spot at Hershey the past few years and having a few cold drinks and just enjoying the sunset! I enjoyed riding with buddy Sammy, he's gone now as well. I loved this car!  Just needed the space

More power to you, your doing so good you probably won’t go back to work. The buy pays no fees but just getting tax on a part that’s been taxed sucks too. The tax makes a good deal not so good as you think. So did you give them your tax ID or your social Security number they send you a 1099

Thanks for your concern, but I was rather successful in my career and fortunate to have a good union pension combined with other investments I had made, and I was able to retire 5 years early. I set it up so I WILL NEVER GO HAVE BACK TO WORK EVER AGAIN! SO SELLING MY LIFE'S ACCUMULATION  OF COOL STUFF ON EBAY (AND OTHER PLACES) IS THE CLOSEST THING TO A JOB I EVER PLAN ON EVER HAVING AGAIN.  The beauty of it is I know that the items I am selling more then likely will get tossed when I pass on if I don't sell them. I really don't need the income generated so I been putting it aside to deposit in account for my Granddaughter's this week when I can get out to the bank. Ironically I had to call my son's to get their daughter's SS#'s, as well as my son's.......My accountant said it might be deductible if I deposit in a certain type of account.  What an crazy circle this can be?   So I can get taxed when I get it, but write it off when I give it!

I have a good accountant so the tax's have not been an issue, even if they are as he say's paying tax's are a good thing, that means I made money!"

To be honest what ever personal information I had to provide Ebay is the same that everyone else had to provide them, besides I don't recall it was over a year ago, most likely it was my SSN. It is just standard information as with doing business with any institution that is paying me direct. I do recall the transaction that inspired them to ask for my information.  I had sold an NOS heater for a Chevrolet Truck 55-58 in an unopened box, it brought me over the $600 threshold and I think I got paid up to $600 but to get paid for the balance they needed the information. It reminded me of a standard I believe W-9 I filled out years ago.

The sales tax is a problem and I know has had a negative impact on the sale of some of the high dollar items I sold over the years, and was a negotiating point for the eventual buyer. I know that now going in and factor that in on my asking prices and realize that there needs to be some 'wiggle' room for the sales tax

You never answered my question, do you know of any other platform that delivers the same type of exposure and results for less cost to the seller? There is none that I found. Would you rather sell it and pay a fee and put a few bucks in your pocket, or list it for free and look at it for months? I am at a point in my life where I am not looking to waste time, time is money to me

John, how rare is this ?  I remember the Monza, but not the Mirage.

    Steve

They are very rare, the were made by an outside firm for GM so the numbers are a little inconsistent. I come up with around 4000 units, not all were 4 speeds not all had the same graphics package, and believe it or not, some were not V-8's. The ones that remain not many are stock, are not that stock. They now have 350's rather the the original 305's. They are pretty hard to come by, and rather quick on the road. This car is on the list of my downsizing project this year, shame but....

that building the L.I. Auto Museum was in is no longer, it was demolished within the past few years by the people who now own the property.  It was rusting out in the mid 1970s at the seams in the roof so if you were up in the roof area ( lots of parts stored there , stairs to get there were in the shop area at the NW corner at the rear of that buildings) in wet weather you got soaked . One of the parts was the hood for the Christie FWD taxi. The library table made of oak circa 1915 I have was in the front lobby through the doors you see on the right side after you entered , it was a place where brochures of local historic sites were placed for the taking.  I now use the table as my desk in my archives.  When the museum closed Austin had a wake for it, jazz band New Orleans style, and car lover and cartoonist Charles Addams showed up with an arm band on. Oh the stories I could tell..........

    FeeBay just SUCKS big time…

You are going to pay a fee if you are going to receive a service, do you know of ANYTHING BETTER?

I sold over $9.000 worth of hobby related Items since mid-November recuperating from a miserable knee replacement, and never left my house. Their cost is factored into my overhead on every item I list. If I don't get paid I don't ship, if someone orders and changes their mind, it happens. I only ship when EBay says it's OK to ship.

The buyer pays no fees so it's fun to shop, and for a seller, for the past 20 years I have been using it, everything eventually sold, but it comes at a price. I am willing to pay the price just to sell the item, I still make a profit, and I know it's only going tossed when I die, so I am just staying ahead of the curve

If a seller doesn't pay I cancel the order, block the bidder and relist the items as mentioned above. I've been selling on ebay for over ten years and it's only happened a few times. Only cost is a bit a of frustration so I chalk it up to the cost of doing business and move on.

As far as fees go, on a typical ebay sale they get about 13-14% total. If I load my truck and trailer, pay for fuel, food, spaces and lodging to go to a swap meet, my expenses usually FAR exceed that. When people wonder why swap meets are drying up, well, that's it in a nutshell. Break your back loading and unloading, setting up, pay $200 for spaces, $200 for fuel, $100 for food (if you eat cheap) and $300 for lodging for a two or three day swap meet, sell $3,000 worth of parts. Let's see.....your expenses were 27% of sales. Yep, double what ebay gets. Just sayin'........

Well said, I made a lot money without filling up my truck. There are fee's with EBay but the job get's done

PK, They have my bank account info sans SSN.

I get emails every now and again asking for my SSN so that they can pay me but they don't seem to understand that I owe no tax on this sale.

On top of that Oregon doesn't even have a sales tax.

I don't think should be eBays job to do Uncle Sams work.

    Jack,

EBay is making income off of your income that they have to declare. What ever you sell is considered income to both the state and federal governments, By law they have to send you a 1099, and it is your option to claim it or not when you file your income taxes. It is not a question that they have a choice of doing Uncle Sam's work, they have to report who is getting the income generated from the sales.  I have to get a PA Tax ID number to vend at Hershey, the State of PA wants my SSN, what's the difference?

I am not a big EBay defender, they offer a service for PRICE, but don't think they are doing to rob your personal info.
