  1. Every rule listed can and are successfully broken by different re-builders.

This will increase the time to dismantle the car but well be worth it.

Get shelving to put the parts on & off the floor.

Use an area the size of a 3 car garage or about 600 SQ FT. ( 2 car in a squeeze)

Take lots & lots of photos before you start.

You will need the photos when you reassemble the car 1 to 4 years later.

Label each part and assign a "number" to the part.

Write up a description of part "number" and where it is located & what is next to.

Take multiple photos of each part just before you remove it and assign the part "number" to the photo.

Put small parts in a zip lock baggie with the part "number".

Put different sizes of nuts, bolts, & washers in separate baggies & identify what part "number" it is used.

When you send a part out for work by a vender, take multiple photos with part for tracking lost items.

This is not a perfect list but it can help you.

  4. Motor vehicles are the exception as antiques at 25 years. In the ANTIQUE WORLD, an item must be 100 years old to be considered an antique. Until then the item is considered as vintage. There are no known antique TVs but some very very nice vintage TVs. I am lucky enough to have several nice vintage items that I hope will be antiques in my lifetime.

  5. This is a portable tire changer tool and can be used on the road. They come in different sizes. Most cars with wood (split) rims from the middle 10's to the mid 30 used these.

They work fine to make the rim smaller in diameter to put boot, inter tube, and tire on rim. When they are on the rim, spread rim out and inflate.

I installed 7 new tires on car rims with my rim tool. Only took about 20 minutes or so a tire.

  6. Yes, our town used the 1960 midsized Dodge Dart as a police car.

In 1957, 58, & 59 our small town used the Ford with a police special package. In 1960 the town purchased midsized Dodge Darts with Chrysler's police package.

In 1960 I worked at the local pharmacy delivering prescriptions in their 1956 Chevy 150 2dr that had a factory 1957 283 4 barrel and manual shift. During this time there were no speed limits in Iowa and the pharmacist had a real led foot.

Each year the pharmacist raced his his Chevy against the Ford Police cars and each year they could not pass him. In 1960, they were able to pass him with the Dodge. I never knew what engine the Dodge had but it would fly.

Our town had 12 or 14 cops and the pharmacist went to school with half of them. I can assure you that the chevy would really run and no 17 year old should have ever driven it.

  7. Disney World does this several times a day using small sports sedans by placing the body on backward and dark windows. It is a very exciting trick and well worth spending the time in line for the show. I would not like to see one of these cars on the highway. It would probably create enough of a distraction to cause accident trying to get out of the way. It's a great TV Commercial.

  8. The cone nose and rear wing were used to provide better handling at speeds over 120 MPH. About 30 years ago NASCAR required race cars to be "Stock". Chrysler was in the racing market and was required to sell a set number of cars to run NASCAR. I don't remember if the sales requirement was 500 or 5,000. Check the following link for information on the 1971 racing.

  9. When Port-a-walls were popular in the 50's and early 60's, the radial tire was not available in the US. Even with bias ply tires, the port-a-walls would not stay next to the bias tire due to sidewall flex. It was easy to spot the fake white walls as the outside edge would be about an 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch from the tire. They looked good for a month or so but you very soon had a 20 to 30 foot car. The radial tire with it's greater flex probably will not work. I don't think grinding the black cover will weaken the sidewall, but give the tire greater flex the same as a similar black wall tire without the white strip.

White wall rubber is more expensive to make and the tire companies will not put a wider strip of white rubber than necessary. They will not put a 4" strip when they only need 1 or 1.5 inches. Yes, the white wall is created by grinding off the black wall covering to the width desired. The YouTube demonstration is a manual method of accomplishing approximately the results of the tire MGF.

  10. In September 1959 a classmate, who worked construction, came to school with a 1955 Chrysler 300 with a Hemi engine. The odometer went to 150 and he claimed he had pegged the needle. In Iowa, I-35 only went 30 miles south of I-80 and we set up a flying mile to using a stop watch. Car was clocked at just a little over 130. The course came down a low hill into a river valley about 2 miles long with no exit ramps. Obviously, Chrysler didn't have the speedometer calibrated correctly but few people would check it out.

  11. The first thing you need to do is to go to the following web page to join the HUPMOBILE CLUB.

    Hupmobile Club

The club prints 4 issues of the "PARTS LOCATOR" a year providing you access to parts available for sale and you can post items you want to buy. They will mail it to you but it comes much quicker by email.

They also print a very nice quarterly magazine.

Additionally, as a member you have access to experts in the club and a membership roster of names, address, and what model and year cars.

Additionally, the club has a meet each in various locations around the country. This year the rally was in Reno, in 2010 in was in north central Pa, in 2009 in was in VT. Next year the rally be in INGERSOLL, ONTARIO, CANADA JULY 9 THRU 13, 2012. About 35 to 40 percent come without a car and ride with other members. Plan to attend and if you get the car running and can get it there, the members will be all over your car. The is no need to paint or install a new interior unless that is your desire.

    Happy hupping.
