I got the settlement offer from the insurance company. $3143 and the car is totaled. Or $2496 and I can keep the car. I chose to keep the car. Not as much as I had hoped for, but considering the high mileage and minor damage done in a previous accident, it's not bad. The car was for sale anyway, and I would have taken $3500 for it before this incident. It's drivable and the damage isn't too bad, so I think I'll keep it a while. I'll end up with a "salvage" title on it, but I guess that's ok. The cool thing is that between this settlement and the check I got from the previous accident, it adds up to $100 less than I paid for the car 2-1/2 years ago. (Gotta think positive!)

I'm still waiting on the insurance adjuster to come out and take a look. The insurance company said that I didn't need to get an estimate, that the adjuster would take care of that. I got one anyway. Just a little over $3500. (Good guess AlanAnt) I figure if I can get the $3500 and they total it, that's not too bad since it was for sale anyway. However, I like the idea of offering to take less without the total and then selling it. I already have a local party interested in it if I go that route. I'll let you all know what happens. After replacing the ECM on mine, the light would come on every once in a while for the first several times I drove it. Seems that I remember something posted here about the ECM having to "learn" or adjust itself after installation.

Truck with gooseneck trailer didn't quite have enough clearance. Caught the Jeep's rear bumper and pulled him into my Reatta then pulled both of us into the black pickup. Now I wait to see what his insurance company says...

Scam Alert! Yes, this was a scam. Check was returned to my bank as a forgery. Luckily, I had talked to the bank manager about it before I made the deposit and she made the funds unavailable until the check cleared or was returned. She is mailing it back to me and of course I'm not out anything on it. Not sure what my next step is, although I understand this type of thing is investigated by the Secret Service. The bank is currently suing a number of people that have fallen for similar scams. Thanks to everyone for their advice and comments. BEWARE my friends! Yes, spelling and grammar are questionable. One gave me a phone number, but all I get is "please send a fax or leave a message after the tone". I guess what made me question the offers is that both wanted to send extra money for the transporter. What should it cost to transport a Reatta across the country? (BTW the phone number was a 206 area code. Washington state?) I gave the guy with the phone number my address to send the check, so we'll see. I'll take it to the bank and see if they can verify. I have had two people contact me about buying my car that I've advertised here and on a local TV station web site. Both want to send me a cashiers check for the car plus extra to give to the transport company that will pick up the car. Is this legit? Anyone had this kind of offer? The only way I have been able to communicate with these folks is via email and they don't seem too concerned about the condition of the car. Smells fishy, but I don't want to miss a chance to sell it. Thanks,

Nick, Just wanted to update you on my similar problem. After all was said and done, I replaced the ECM like you did and that did the trick. My mechanic had replaced it when I first started having problems because the one I had came with a lifetime warranty. However, the replacment didn't fix the problem, so he took it back out and returned it to the parts store. I asked him to check it one more time for me this week, so he ordered a warranty replacment and it worked. We figured the first replacment they sent must have been bad also. Oh well, you live and learn. By the way, I have decided to sell my beautiful car if I can get my price. I posted it on the Reatta Buy/sell board if anyone is interested.

Watch out for the dreded Wal-Mart bag syndrome. I went to Wal-mart and put my purchases in the trunk. When I got home, all I heard was the little click. I opened it by reaching the manual release through the access door (before the ice cream melted!) The handle on one of the Wal-mart bags was tangled in the latch and somehow this kept the solenoid from working. This has happended to me twice, so now I'm careful to keep the bags away from the latch.

The dreaded E042 code. I've had that twice before and it was the coil pack once and the ECM {computer} the other time. About $100 for a new one. Don't get discouraged and hang in there. You will love this car once you get the bugs worked out.

An older lady here in Central Arkansas had a 1989 Reatta that she only drove on errands and to the grocery store, etc. I've never seen the car, but I found out the other day that she had wrecked it. Rear ended a parked van. The insurance company totaled it. She called me wanting to buy my 90 Reatta. After a lot of thought I told her I didn't want to sell. Her car had around 80K and was silver or gray. She has no idea how to use the internet and wouldn't be able to go very far to look at one for sale, but I told her I would let her know if I found anyone looking to sell. BTW, she doesn't know what happened to her wrecked car, but I've been checking the local yards. I wouldn't mind having the brake accumulator and pump. If I find it, I'll get the VIN and let Barney know.

Nick, I got the spare connector you sent. Thanks again. I haven't decided if I want to try to splice it in myself or have my trusted mechanic friend do it. I'm leaning toward the mechanic. Right now it's running great with a temporary fix. As I said before, if I put pressure on one end of the connector, the problem goes away. I put a zip tie around it and got it tight enough to put the right amount of pressure on the connection. And here's another thing I noticed about the "symtoms". Usually when first started the "check engine" light is on and there is no tach, temp, speedo or A/C. Sometimes while driving, everything starts working, although it misses and hesitates. I found that if I turn the car off and restart it while the gauges are working, all symptoms go away and it runs great for a while. I'm 99% sure it's in the connection to the ECM. I'll keep you updated.
