  1. I would suggest having your car appraised. The reason I suggest this is I had a '67 Skylark that I wanted to sell. I checked the price guide and figured out what I wanted for the car. A friend suggested I have it appraised, so for $75.00 I did. Well it came out $2500.00 more than what I thought I could get. Well worth the investment. Besides, the buyer who bought it, never even dickered the price after seeing the paperwork. At least in my case. The buyer can also insure it for the full appraised value. Just a suggestion.
  2. Dave: Thanks for the PM. I'll pass the info along
  3. We both live in the Buffalo NY area. He isn't interested in changing to aluminum, he would just like to obtain a good set of 4 cast iron drums. I believe he said his can't be machined any further. I guess he did find some, but with a price of $100.00 per drum, he'd like to keep looking. Could that be the going price???? If you have the phone number for the fellow in PA, I'll gladly pass it on.
  4. A fellow chapter member has a '57 Special, which needs brake drums. He said they are either very hard to find,or very expensive if you can find them. Does anyone know a source for these? I myself was wondering if the old drums can be cut down and inserts installed (heat shrunk) much like what was done with the old aluminum style brake drums. Can anyone shed some light on this matter? Tom
  5. I may have misunderstood the year.<img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> My buddy claims that when the gauge would read 3/4 full, it would only stay there for a few minutes, then go back to full. Most of the time it just reads FULL with the ignition on. It's not a question of not putting enough mileage between fill-up's either. He sets the trip meter and fuels up around every 250 miles. I'll relay your comments and let him make a decision as to what he wants to do, but my guess is he'll just keep topping off the tank. But who knows. He'll appreciate the help though.
  6. I'm asking this for a fellow BCA member, who doesn't have a computer. Yes, there are still some of those out there. Anyway, he has a '97 roadmaster, and his fuel gauge reads full all the time. He say's when he shuts the ignition off, the gauge goes to empty, but once the ignition is turned back on, it registers full. He also said that every once in a while, it may read 3/4 full, but then goes back up to full. It sounds like the gauge is functioning properly, but whatever operates the level is screwed up. Any thoughts on this? Thanks. Tom
  7. Thank's guy's for all the suggestions,I'll try them all. Never did give it a thought to remove the opposite door panel, to see what I'm up against. See, it pays to ask. Tom
  8. I've asked this question on some other sites, with no response, so I posting it here, hoping some of our members can shed some light. My father-in-law ownes a '93 Lincoln Town Car. The right rear door is locked, and will not open from the inside or outside. You can hear the power lock solenoid operating, but evidently something has come apart in the door. Because the door is locked and unable to be open, the door panel cannot be removed to inspect to see what the problem is. Does anyone know of a way to get the door unlocked? I was thinking that maybe with the window down, something could be slid down inside and pop it open, but I have no idea what to use, where to fish, or what to fish for! Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance. Tom
  9. Any chance the interior is BLACK? If you plan on parting it out, I'm looking for a dash pad and steering wheel that are'nt cracked. What condition are the interior door panels? You can e-mail me at sticeman@usadatanet.net Thanks Tom
  10. Your right!!! Pure ethlene glycol is clear. When I was working, my company purchased ethlene glycol by the barrel. I mixed it 50/50 with water to get a-35 degree solution, added it to my 67 GS-340, along with a can of rust inhibitor/ water pump lubricant, and when I removed that engine at over 100,000 miles, the water passages were as shiny and clean as the day it was built.
  11. Yea, but I'd rather the vehicle be in the totaled category than myself or someone driving the vehicle! Tom
  12. OUCH ... Is right! So glad you came out ok. Sometimes those deer come thru the windshield. Did you indicate that your air bags didn't deploy? Seems funny, my daughter was in a 40 mile/ hour head-on in her Saturn and her airbags didn't deploy either. When she called the dealer to ask at what speed they should activate, they said about 10-12 mph. They didn't have an answer as to why her's didn't. Kinda makes you wonder if the safety devices you pay for are actually in working order. An accident is one hell of a test. You know, they do make those little cheap devices called "Deer Alerts". Say what you want, but I've had them on every vehicle I've owned, except my classics, and I've yet to hit a deer, and I live in the sticks too. I see the deer look as I go by, but they seem to work. Watch, after saying that I'll have a meeting with one. Just glad no one was injured. Tom G.
  13. Thanks to all! I'm going to find as close of a match as I can to the color that mine is and paint it. My dash is black, and I was hoping that maybe that was one of the color choices I had, but I guessed wrong. This is what makes this hobby fun.
  14. Vito..I'm putting in an AM/FM cassette player in mine. I still would like to get confirmation on what color or colors they came in. Tom
  15. I have a 60's vintage tissue dispenser with the chrome front and tri shield insignia. The main body is scratched and rusty and I would like to repaint it. Were all of the dispensers the same color, or were they painted the color of the dash? This one looks to be a dark grayish color. Also, there is a plain hex head bolt with washer and nut, thru the swing hinge. This bolt doesn't look proper for this application. Can anyone either explain what the proper bolt should look like or send me a close up photo of of one. Thanks Tom Gestwick BCA# 26361

  19. I am looking for a loovered chrome air cleaner that I believe was used on the 66 LeMans. It is approximately 1-3/4" high X 15" in diameter. The top must be rust and dent free, and not in need rechroming to be presentable. E-mail me at sticeman@usadatanet.net if you can be of any help. Thanks Tom
  20. I filled out my card and included the vin numbers, but I mailed it in an envelope. My feeling is my information is more apt to be compromised on a post card, than in a roster. I am only out the cost of an envelope because a stamp is needed no matter how it's mailed. If a lot of members feel the same as some of us, then maybe instead of a post card being supplied in the Bugle, a card with envelope attached could be inserted instead. Providing it didn't increase printing costs. However, safety only goes so far. Several years ago my brother-in-law had an 85 Regal turbo stolen from in front of his house. He had it at a local show the day before. The window card had his name and city/town. All the thief had to do is look the name up in a phone book to get an address. He already checked out the car! Needless to say, it was never recovered. So if someone really wants your car, they'll go out of their way to get it. The only thing we can do is to try and limit the ways they have to get it. 21. This reminds me of a salvage yard in Old Town, Florida I visited a year or so ago, named OLD GOLD CARS & PARTS. I thought I hit pay dirt , UNTIL!! I found a 67 GS that had a decent set of hood scoops. The hood itself was beyond saving, so I asked "how much for the scoops" Well, they would only sell the scoops with the hood as a package. OK, HOW MUCH ??? Are you ready for this! $ 425.00 I hope the Georga yard isn't one of those get rich quick operations. And they wonder why younger people don't get into the hobby. Good luck Tom
