  2. House and shop survived all the hurricanes with only minor damage, thanks for the interest in my well being ( or at least my Electra 225!) Brad.
  3. I've installed the Pertronix kits on two of my cars.A 66 mustang 289, and my 59 Buick 401. Both kits installed easy. I only installed their points, keeping the original coils. The mustang has been on 4 years, the Buick 2 years. So far they have worked flawlessly. I'd go for it. No more messing with points!
  4. Hans,been having that big smile on my face. Like I said a year ago, I may not restore it! I've just been having fun driving it the way it is. It runs great. Just little stuff to do,like windows don't work yet, no radio, no headliner or door panels. But man does that 401 sound good with dual pipes and leaky mufflers! Everybody stops me and wants to know what it is. Later this year I think I'll dig a little deeper into the repairs. Brad.

  6. O.K. so here's what I did. rebuilt carb with kit. Used only the stainless baffle plate, but put a very thin smear of high temp black silicone on both sides of plate and bolted it down. Will crank it tomorrow and see what happens.
  7. The fiber gasket came in a "HYGRADE" carb rebuild kit I purchased at my local Napa store. The reason I mentioned sealer was how do you eliminate vacuum leaks with a metal to metal seal when things are 46 years old?
  8. Dave, thanks for the info, that makes sense. I do have the plate. Do I use the fiber gasket that came with the kit also? When I removed the carb all that was there was the thin metal plate. what do you think would be a good sealer to use in this case? thanks, Brad.
  9. On my 59 electra 225 with 401 motor and Carter AFB, when I removed the carb to do an overhaul there was a thin metal gasket under the carb. When re-installing do I just use the gasket (fiber) from the kit, or both? I think the metal went directly against the manifold to keep exhaust gasses from eating away at carb. Is this correct? Should I use a high temp sealer apllied real thin? Hopefully one of you nailhead nuts knows the answer.Thanks, Brad.

I've tried everything I know and with help from centurian and big fella at www.electra225.com to post my pictures and have realized I know how to make an old Buick run but can't do a photo post. Please go to the " Collectable Automobile Photo Post" icon on this page and click on buick photos to see my beast. I bought this car in Oct.2003 from my brother in Louisiana. He has about 400 old cars and trucks and this came out of his " field collection" that is it sat in his yard for 10 years. Originally sold at Francis Edwards motor company in Shreveport, Louisiana my brother got it on trade for an old chrysler. He hauled it to Hershey for me, I hauled it home and last summer got it running. Jeff Lundberg from this site furnished a radiator since the original had been stolen.Thanks, Jeff. Did brakes over, new tires, tune up,changed tranny fluid and filter.It came alive fairly easily. Had to weld in some floor panels because rain water had sat in carpets making a big stinky sponge! Had to gut the interior. Put in seats out of a 89 Cadillac sedan deville somebody gave me. Drove to the Road agents "Rockabilly Rumble" in East Hartford Connecticut last july and had a ball driving the car all this year. It seems to run very well and I have room in my garage so it won't deteriate any further. Just a fun car to drive and I will slowly work on it as I drive it. This will never be a perfect car because of the condition it is in but I don't care. It is just one cool ride. I have my nephews and niece ( 4-7 years old ) convinced it was the original Batmobile and when they visit they always want to go for a ride! Anyhow, this is my Buick,Brad.

When I tried to navigate my way to post them here with my story It kept telling me my photos were to many bytes. I tried the downsizer and just got confused. Oh well, I'll keep trying. Brad Nelson.

  14. Brian, I sent photos of my 59 deuce an a quarter to " Big Fella" this weekend to be posted on "Me and My Buick". Once tht gets going I will post the story of this car. Brad.
  15. if you click on the Barrett-Jackson link I posted, and then click on " Press Releases" it will lead you to barrett-Jackson's link for the Howard Hughes cars. It states that this car will be on display at Scottsdale , but will be for sale at their Palm Beach auction. I plan on attending both of there auctions. Should be interesting! Brad.

  17. For what it may be worth, my 59 electra 225 four door flat-top has the mirror with the rings, and is mounted on the door. Looks to be the original mirror that came on the car. Brad.

  20. Does anyone know if Lesabre four door flat-top winddows will interchange with electra? How about invicta? Also are the windows same manual or power?

  22. I need a Drivers side front window (mine fell apart from rust) for my 59 Electra 225 four door flat-top. Mine has electric windows. Broken glass would be O.K. but the frame itself has to be good for a driver. Does anyone know what other windows might interchange? Other G.M. cars or 59 Buick body styles?
  23. Well, I will tell you about my first, only and last dealing with Cars,inc. Last fall I needed a rear bumper for my 59 electra 225. Called Cars,inc. They said they had a decent one for a driver since that is the condition of my car and the price was $150 I agreed to buy it. The counter gut told me they had a good connection with their trucking company and shipping should be about $50 from New Jersey to Connecticut.That sounded reasonable to me so I agreed. They said needed the $150 up front and said they would ship it C.O.D. for the trucking. Sent them money order for $150. When the bumper showed up the the trucking company wanted $150 C.O.D. for just the trucking! After numerous phone calls with all kinds of evasive answers (like we aren't a trucking company so we have no clue why the counter guy would quote you $50 ) ( counter guy is not in, can we take a message) ( no adjustments offered,no store credit,nothing). I bit the bullet and paid the trucking company because it was obvious to me Cars,inc. didn't give a crap about me and already had my $150 for the bumper. If they originally had told me about $150 for trucking I would have driven to their store. Sorry to bore you all with this but I thought a warning was justified for those considering a purchase from them.Brad.
