  1. I think the purple antique plates only started in the 60's. They came about due to the efforts of a group of collectors within the AACA. I know the late George Dohne of York was one of the group and held a very low number plate thaough not #1 as I remember. I used to know who had plate #1 but can't remember now. I'm sure someone will fill in the details.

  2. Every message board, club or organization I have ever been associated with has had its share of individuals who thrive on drama. Peter has accepted full responsibility for the inconvenience of deleted posts and likely will handle the situation differently in the future. Now let's move on, shall we?

  3. We are looking for a sample or a mixing formula for a late 30's Packard color IRIDIUM GREY POLY IM # 1813. The PPG Color Library was unable to supply us with a modern equivalent. Does anyone have a chip of this color? Thanks!

  4. Years ago I was offered a late 40's Plymouth convertible at a very reasonable price, I thought. Went to look at it and it had been stored for years in an underground potato cellar within 100 feet or so of a creek. What a shame. The thing was intact but you could literally push your finger thru the sheetmetal almost anywhere on the body. The fellow was upset that I poked a hole in his door just with my finger. I passed on the deal.

  5. Can anyone recommend a source for early pistons other than Egge or Jahns? Neither can supply us with pistons for a '26 Kissel, diameter 3.3125" compression heighth 1.91" or so.

  6. About 15 years ago I had an employee who had a girlfriend whose Father had been a Regional Manager with Sinclair, as I remember. In her possession was a shoe box containing a photo of what I became convinced was every gas station, no matter how small and no matter the brand they were pedalling, that was operating in York County, PA in about 1958 or so. Fascinating! I tried to buy the box or even buy permission to make copies but no luck. Both the employee and the girlfriend with her box have long since moved on. Too bad.

  7. Thanks for the info. I think I've found a place here in the US to have them made. From what I've seen of stainless castings the fine detail would be lost. We have sand castings made on a regular basis but these handles have an intricate filigree pattern on them that would not transfer with sand casting. They are not something for which there would be a market so there would be no economy of scale. Always expensive to have just 1 or 2 of a part made but that's the restoration game I suppose.
