  1. Found it. The small black wire that grounds to the front fender from the battery was at fault. Cleaned the wire and all is well. Thanks, all. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
  2. I am about to rebuild my 400 motor cause the crank is shot. This will be my first rebuild and I will need parts that fit. Any suggestions on where I should buy. TA Performance has a complete rebuild kit (top and Bottom ends) but that is about the only vendor I could find. From a prior post I know I need to find a good machine shop but in West Va, that'll be tough! Thanks,
  3. Check out this link: http://www.atlantabuick.com/Restoration.htm#Grille%20Repair
  4. Thanks. I'll check them again tonight.
  5. Yeah I check everything I can think of. I started the car and then disconnected the positive battery cable and the car died. New alternator I guess. I think that I have two issues. BAd alternator and I suppose the fusable links. Still need help with the links. Anyone?
  6. Driving 100 miles from home on Saturday and the head-lights, tail-lights, interior lights go out and the gas gauge reads empty and convt top won't go up. Wipers are dead too. Had a hell of a storm Saturday afternoon. Anyway, I replaced the voltage regulator. Didn't work. I heard something about fusable links at the starter. I have never seen a fusable link but understand it is really a wire that is higher in guage than the main wires going to the starter. I am having a hard time exposing these wires so I can repair with a splice. Do I have to remove the starter motor? Any tips if my problem is not the fusable link? Also, the car starts and runs fine although all of the lights are out except for the OIL and GEN light. They stay on. They even come on when the car is off and I open the door. This is nuts. Thanks,
  7. Sounds like most prefer mechanical gauges but I suppose electrical is better than what I have now and since I don't want them to be seen, I'll go that route. Thanks to all that responded and I'll let you know if I am able to spring load the gauges successfully. It can't be that tough.
  8. Is mechanical or electrical better? I know you stated you have mechanical but does it matter? I should add that I plan to mount them under the ashtray but also be able to flip them up under the dash on some kind of a spring mount that I fabricate so they can't be seen . And thanks for the reply.
  9. Can someone make a suggestion on OIL, water temp and amp guages. I only have lights in my GS and want to add gauges. Is mechanical better than electrical? Brand? I have seen them from $30 to $130. Looking for a cluster of 3. Thanks
  10. I just did a rebuild on my 67 and used PST. All of the parts were there and fit just right. I only wish I purchased the springs form them too. Don't purchase springs from George Hemstreet in Easton Pa. He thinks Skylark springs fit a big block GS. I put the first set of springs on and the car looked like a low rider.
  11. Thanks Scott and Roberta. I will check both NAPA (should have thought of this one myself) and T/A performance. I'll let you all know what happens.
  12. Anyone know where I can find a Crankshaft kit for my 67 GS 400? I've checked all over the internet with no luck. Seals are no problem but it seems the crank is! Thanks,
  13. Thanks for the reply everyone. I do have the 67 service manual and have the guts to take this on myself. I was even thinking about buying some used motor and rebuilding it first just to gain the experience before I tackle the orig 400. Another question. Do I purchase a complete rebuild kit or would a machine shop be willing to use the parts I purchased and any suggestions on where to buy the kit? Thanks again,
  14. I'm thinking that my GS400 motor is going to need a top and bottom end re-build late this year or early next year. The problem is I've never done it before (not even a lawn mower engine). Anyone have any ideas to help me out such as a rebuild video. I'm am also looking for a local vocational school with night classes but that isn't looking good so far. My car is original so buying a new motor isn't an option. Thanks,
  15. I am rebuilding the front end suspension and need to get the upper control arm (drivers side) out of the car. I need to remove the steering shaft (if that is the correct term) so I can access the bolds that hold the control arm. Do I remove the shaft from the power steering unit or from the firewall? Both? HELP? I know this is simple but I have never done this before and don't want to screw anything up. Thanks in advance.
  16. Thanks everyone. I used ESPO and the parts look good. I purchased springs from George Hemstadt (found him in Hemmings). Pricey but new and powdercoated. Now if I can just install everthing as this is my first front end rebuild. Thanks again.
  17. I need to rebuild my front end. Anyone got any suggestions on where I might find a kit besides Kantor. Also, if you have used Kantor; any issues? Thanks, and this will be my first front-end rebuild.
  18. Sorry, 67 Skylark/GS radio. Does it work?
  19. Colors and Condition? I assume black but I have seen some painted.
  20. I think I am running rich cause there is a strong gas smell and I have black smoke (only a little) coming through the tail pipes. Any guidelines on adjusting the 400-4 carb on a 67 GS400 TH400? I am really looking for better mileage too.
  21. Rick P. Any lit on 1967 GS 400? I have the Body by Fisher and Service manual. Just looking for anything else on the 67 GS
