I dont know if a crossover is needed, but everything I read about it seems to be positive. We'll see.

Yellowlark,
I will get a postons or flowmaster exhaust system with X-crossover. Not too sure which mufflers I'll use. Any suggestions?
P.S. Took the car for a weekend trip to Laguna Beach. Drives great! The engine is really quick and responsive on the highways.
The current set up makes for a great cruiser. I can't wait to put in the new camshaft.

On the subject, I beleive Percy Shelley would drive a Skylark as he states in his poem, "Ode to a Skylark"

TEMP light goes on...when car is cold!!!
EstateWagon79 replied to EstateWagon79's topic in Buick - General
Jim, YES! There is a ground strap! I totally forgot about that thing. Unfortunately car is still at the shop right now, but I will check it first thing tomorrow morning. I hope that will solve this mess.
Thanks for the info. -
I used to have a 300-2, stock with 210hp. It had skinny 195/75/14 tires.
Here's what I have just done.
1) I just installed postons headers with no exhaust behind it.
2) I also switched to a stock 4bbl manifold which was glass beaded throughout.
3) 500cfm Carter AFB on top of a 1 inch spacer.
4) Installed new replacement Postons lifters.
5) New AC delco RF45 plugs.
6) Accel super-coil 9mm wires.
7) K&N air filter.
8) 14x6 Rallye wheels.
9) 215/60/14 BF Goodrich Comp T/A
Everything else in the car is bone stock. Nothing stripped out. All the weight is there.
How much gross and net horsepower do you think I'm getting?
Do you think she is a worthy street machine?

TEMP light goes on...when car is cold!!!
EstateWagon79 replied to EstateWagon79's topic in Buick - General
Thanks for all the suggestions. This is what I tried.
1) Unhooked wire at sending unit and the light went off.
2) Hooked wire to a new sending unit (not screwed into manifold) and light still went on.
3) Checked for shobby wire in engine compartment...didnt see anything suspicious.
4) I gave up and took it to my mechanic and asked him to check it out while he tunes up my new carb. -
Err, if all else fails BigRed, you should invest in a new AFB. I just changed my 2bbl for a new 4bbl AFB. No modifications were done. I started it up and it runs great. I just took it to a guy to get it tuned and timing checked.
That might a thought for you if you don't get that beast running anytime soon.

Have you done any performance mods to your 403? Believe it or not, there is quiet an abundance of aftermarket parts if you know where to look.
Mine is stock and it shows. 185hp at 120k and 4100lbs, it takes a while to accelerate..
But once you get up to 80mph, it'll cruise like there's no tomorrow!

EstateWagon79 replied to EstateWagon79's topic in Buick - General
Thanks for the help. I think it is the temp sending unit. I will change it and hopefully the problem is solved. -
Oh yes...this is a very annoying task. However, I like it because people stare at you in awe. How many cars do you see nowadays with fillers behind the license plate...SO COOL!!!
Just do what I do...try to fill her up everytime so you don't have to go back that often.

Yesterday, I finally finished doing major overhaul on my 65 Skylark's 300. Fresh 4bbl intake and brand new carter AFB. New lifters. New headers. New thermostat.
I turned the key and everything ran great! No problems what so ever.
This morning, when engine is completely cold I start it up and TEMP light goes on. I check cooling system, add antifreeze, no leaks, everything looks ok.
What could the problem be? Is the light just broken or is my engine acting up?
Any thoughts?

Dort,
How much do you want for the headers? Would you consider a trade for my exhaust manifolds?
-
Looking for a pair of 300 headers. Postons no longer makes them

POSTONS...what the heck?!?
EstateWagon79 replied to EstateWagon79's topic in Buick - Performance and Modified
BuickGS65,
Do you have these headersbyed? -
Last week, I finally got the money to buy headers for my 300. I call Postons only to be informed that they ran out of headers and were not planning on making them anymore.
What the hell?!?
No other company makes these headers. What am I suppose to do now?
